2016 is ending and brings to mind Swami Rama teaching us “Self-realization is the goal of life.”  Perhaps it is a time when some will think of sankalpa and Swami Rama saying, “So the next step is learning to cultivate sankalpa, determination, that feeling, ‘I will do it! I can do it, and I have to do it!’ no matter what happens.”

In 2017, may each second, as Swami Veda had said, “be cause for celebrations and serve for you as gateways to the Non-temporal.”

“Light and Love as your Destiny now and in your meditations of the coming year,” Swami Ritavan wrote in his Holiday Blessing.

2016 Children's RetreatChildren and youth are at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama (SRSG) at the annual retreat! Inspiration, laughter, and love helping to fulfill Swami Veda’s wish of grace and the practices and teachings of meditation in our lineage continuing into next generations.  The photo comes from Mamta Nakoti. We hope to have more pictures and an article about this event in the January newsletter.

“Connecting to that guru spirit is the light that inspires, guides and protects. When we feel that spirit, we understand that one makes the transition from ego-based thinking to compassion for all, and then true love begins,” Swami Ritavan at this month’s board meeting.

There is regular kirtan at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama. We share this picture taken by Michael Kissener: “Kirtana with the ashram's 'rock band'”

Ines Tsai visited Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama (SRSG) earlier this year and wrote "In this 14 days Indian trip, I found amazing Himalayan Yoga Tradition that not only works on asana but also emotional purification, rested and conscious mind and spiritual liberation. So many love in this Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama, I almost forgot how to smile in past years but only couple days there, beautiful smiles reappeared on my face."

Program for Non-Initiates with Borim Murali is scheduled for 15-21 January 2017 at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama (SRSG) in Rishikesh, India.  “You have been a guest at the Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama, perhaps once, perhaps many times, and have had basic lessons in sitting and breathing etc…But, there is always need for (a) refreshing, (b) refining to subtler levels and (c) learning the next steps (d) even the explanation on mantra-diksha for those who wish to go in that direction.” - Swami Veda Bharati. Contact: ahymsin@ahymsin.org. There will also be a Program for Non-Initiates 6-12 August 2017.

Retreat for Initiates is scheduled for 9th - 15th April 2017 at SRSG. Swami Veda Bharati provided the statement regarding this retreat: "You have...received mantra-diksha. Now the question remains: WHAT after mantra? How to refine it; where to go further? There is always need for (a) refreshing, (b) refining to subtler levels and (c) learning the next steps." For more information: ahymsin@ahymsin.org  There will also be a Retreat for Initiates October 15-21, 2017.

November Faculty Dinner“My experience recently at SRSG is still as profoundly peaceful and restorative as when Swami Veda Bharati was in his body. His smiling benevolent face I experience in the faces of those who he left in charge to teach and guide, and the meditation hall's charge is just as powerful as if SVB were setting there with us. The reason for this is related to what SVB taught us all. The tradition is more than what is represented by the physical manifestation of SVB and his master Swami Rama and the lineage. It exists beyond space and time, and all one need do is retreat at SRSG to recognize the truth of these words,” comments Charles B. Crenshaw Jr.

Picture around the dinner table came from Marilou Hermens.

The Meditation Center in Minneapolis is in the process of renovations. On December 19, John Fraser stated..."we made HUGE progress Sunday, yesterday, our first day of the remodel. We have uncovered the beautiful original walls, colors and houndstooth trim around the altar. It is even more impressive in person. The bookstore/coatroom is now opened up as well...” Photo taken by Swami Radha Bharati. A “Mind the Building” campaign had begun earlier, and The Meditation Center said, “In order for The Meditation Center to remain a home for the teachings, we need to make significant building repairs now.”
