“Childhood is something great. In childhood the mind is pure, tender and receptive. If we impart good education to our children, become selfless examples for them, and give them love, perhaps they will grow and become the best citizens of the world. Then, the whole universe will bloom like a flower.” - Swami Rama in Let the Bud of Life Bloom: A Guide to Raising Happy and Healthy Children

Children's Retreat 2017 DecemberIt is December, and the Yoga Youth and Children's Retreat will be taking place 24th - 30th December 2017 at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama (SRSG) in Rishikesh, India. If you and your family would like to attend and have not signed up yet, please write to [email protected]

Mauni Amavasya is 16 January 2018. In addition to observing a silence day wherever you are, you may want to attend either the Mauni Amavasya Silence Retreats at SRSG in January or one of the three silence retreats in celebration of the purnahuti of Swami Veda’s silence vow.

The 21st anniversary of the Mahasamadhi of Swami Rama was 13 November 2017 and was observed in various centers and at Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust (HIHT) and Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU).  “This is not a sad time of remembrance but a time of serene reunion, and that is how the anniversaries of sacred beings should be observed and celebrated. Many people are still under the impression that a great being leaving his body means he has died. That is because we do not understand the meaning of life and death,” Swami Veda wrote on the 2nd anniversary.

Swami Ritavan’s 5th part in the continuing series “Is an Ashram for Me?” is in this edition.

An article entitled "Yoga Nidrā, An Opportunity for Collaboration to Extend the Science of Sleep States" by Stephen Parker (Stoma) was published in the PubMed journal Sleep and Vigilance on 10th November. Click on the title to read the article.

There will be a Yoga Nidra Retreat 26th - 31st March 2018 at SRSG.  For more information: http://ahymsin.org/main/ashram/yoga-nidra-retreat-in-2018.html.

Joanne receiving certificateIn November, Joanne Sullivan (Divya) returned to the USA. At a surprise party hosted by Mrs. Lalita Arya (Ammaji), Swami Ritavan honored Joanne with a shawl, and she was given a “Certificate of Affection and Appreciation” that read, “We the undersigned staff, faculty, residents, students and friends of Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama express our gratitude for the more than twelve years that you have lived among us as assistant to Swami Veda Bharati, as a teacher, journalist, auntie, student, companion, friend—kalyana-mitra. You have told endless stories of the early days with Swami Rama and Swami Veda, you have helped us to find care when we were ill, you have made sure the drivers found us at the airport in the wee hours of the morning, you have tracked our lost luggage, found us foods that we could eat and sometimes cooked them for us, listened over cups of tea, and even in moments of friction and conflict you helped us learn about ourselves in the process of citta-prasadana, emotional purification. Most of all, you have made very sure that no one falls through the cracks here. Now we wish you all the best of every good thing in a new chapter of life in the United States and hope that these same qualities carry forward into that life.”
