Fasting for Enlightenment
Monday, 09 January 2012
Some controversy seems to have been generated regarding the recent fasts of the Gandhian leader Anna Hazare challenging the corruption in India. Here my purpose is not to say anything about the controversy, if any. The purpose here is only to point out that many ‘modernised’ Indians do not seem to realize how ancient a part of the Indian tradition this type of fasting is. It is still quite common in Indian families for a disgruntled member to stop eating and the whole family... Read more...

Christmas Message 2011
Tuesday, 20 December 2011
Dearest of Dear Luminous and Holy Souls, ‘Silent night, holy night’, Xmas hymn, means only the state of silence makes one holy; be made holy tonight through spiritual silence. ‘Happy Xmas’ means that Christ is born on Xmas night in the souls of those who are joyful. The Christ birth makes you further joyful. Is it not interesting that the nativity of Christ and of Krishna, both are celebrated at midnight – the moment of total silence, equilibrium. Is it not... Gods My only Kin
Friday, 16 December 2011
Recently I discovered some old writings and scribbles of mine in the attic of The Meditation Center in Minneapolis, USA. The scribbles, this one going back to 1967 in Holland, included the verse of Bhrtrhari (in Sanskrit) and the jottings for a poem. These have now been refined here to share. Many in traditional India hold that Bhartrhari the scholar-king and Bhartrhari, the brother of Vikramaditya, the king of Ujjain, are one and the same. The scholars disagree on the identity of the... Love, Meditation, and Service
Friday, 16 December 2011
I have received a question from a spiritually advanced friend who has a following of his own: “I have one question in mind. A person decides to go to a world-famous Meditation Centre (Ashram) in South India, for 10 days. Supposing that the person, while leaving the city finds family person seriously ill, but continues with journey to that Ashram, will it be fair? Especially if the ill person at home has no one by his/her side and needs emotional support, more than anything? Attachment... Read more...

(This is a transcript of a talk that Swamiji gave on 29 September 2011 before a pilgrimage led by Tinyu Chen, Yoong, and Swami Ritavan to Mt. Kailash was to begin.)
