Association of Himalayan Yoga Meditation Societies International

Initiates around the globe came to Rishikesh, India, in 2007 to form the Association of Himalayan Yoga Meditation Societies International, AHYMSIN, the purpose of which is to teach and make available the knowledge of yoga meditation within the Tradition of Himalayan Masters, as interpreted by Swami Rama of the Himalayas.  AHYMSIN is registered as a non-profit charitable society India.  World headquarters are located at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama in Rishikesh, India, which also serves as retreat center and gurukulam.  AHYMSIN has 39 affiliated centres in 17 different countries as well as an international teacher training program, HYT-TTP, www.himalayanyogatradition.com.

Swami Veda Bharati, a disciple of H. H, Sri Swami Rama, provided the impetus for founding AHYMSIN and serves as the Spiritual Guide.  Activities include: teaching the science of yoga, carrying out research and publication in the field of yoga and related branches of knowledge, and performing acts of charity for the benefit of humanity.  Please kindly visit the following websites for inspiration and current news:

Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust

“Love  Serve  Remember” is the motto of the Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust, HIHT, which was founded by H.H. Sri Swami Rama at Jolly Grant, near Dehradun, India, and which is dedicated in carrying on His vision.

"I have a great fire within me to build this great hospital which will serve people, particularly poor people. The people of the mountains of Kumaon and Garhwal regions are very poor. Hospitals are far away and people die before they reach the hospital. I want to give them all the modern amenities and facilities so that they don’t have to rush to Bombay, Delhi, or Chandigarh." ---- H.H. Dr. Swami Rama

The mission of the Institute is to develop integrated and cost-effective approaches to health care and development that address the local population, and which can serve as a model for the country as a whole, and for the under served population worldwide. A combined approach in which traditional systems of health care complement modern medicine and advanced technology is the prime focus of clinical care, medical education, and research at HIHT.

With the dedicated work, HIHT has grown continually to serve more and more people.  The trust operates the fully modern Himalayan Institute Hospital, which offers a range of services, previously not locally available, to the people of the Himalayas. Among the services are: Outpatient Services , Inpatient Services , 24 hour Accident and Emergency Services , Blood Bank , Anesthesiology and Intensive Care (ICU), and Operation Theatres, which are available in the following departments: artificial limb center, cardiology, dental, dermatology, ENT, gastroenterology, general medicine, nephrology, neurology, neurosurgery, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pediatric, physiology and rehabilitation, plastic surgery,  psychiatry, radiology, surgery, T.B. & Chest,  Urology, and VCTC.  In addition, complimentary treatment is offered with Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Combined Therapy, and Cardiac Prevention. In order to realize Swami Rama’s dream, the HIHT Poor Patient Fund has been formed for the purpose of meeting the costs of sustaining the Sewa Ward Project. The Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust opened in 1994 with 250 beds and currently has 750 beds with plans for further expansion up to 2,000 beds. The hospital is serving approximately 10 million poor and needy people.

Another aspect of H.H. Dr. Swami Rama's vision was to establish an educational institution that offers a synthesis of the best of both eastern and western medicine. The Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences is the vehicle for this to happen. The opening of the medical college in 1995 marked the beginning of a new era in the development of medical education in India, and has become a fully recognized University by India.  The Himalayan College of Nursing was established in 2006. Vijay Dhasmana serves as vice-chancellor of HIHT University.

Rural Development Institute (RDI), a rural outreach division of HIHT, was created by Swami Rama in 1991, with an intention for not only providing the people of underdeveloped area with quality health care, but also to ensure overall development of the people focusing on quality of life issues. RDI does extensive field research and uses a multi-dimensional approach to address locally defined needs and priorities, in order to serve the people at large. Special attention is given to the needs of women and children; to improve health status; provide opportunities for education and social development of children and adolescents. Our programs are focused on: primary health care, dental services, reproductive and child health, school health, adolescent initiatives, water and sanitation, livelihood, and education. RDI is currently reaching extensively in 1100 villages with direct interventions in all the 13 districts of the state.
