Swami Veda Returns to SRSG

by Joanne Sullivan (Divya)

February 24, 2014

It is three days before Mahashivaratri, the Night of Shiva. The gardeners have been working hard to rejuvenate the grounds after last week’s hailstorm which dropped many leaves, blossoms, floral bowers between cottages and on rooftops to the ground. The stalwart orange blossoms in a thicket of green foliage along Swamiji’s quarters, however, are yet filled with turgor, a rush of color, vibrancy and hope.

It has been eight weeks since Swami Veda left for Delhi for medical care and rest. Residents, families and guests gathered at the Tara Devi Temple to welcome Swamiji. The children all went up respectfully, briefly, and he gave them chocolates. We were so glad to see him back in our village of seekers.

Swamiji’s close assistants, Tejaswini Chandaria, John Sellinger and Surendra Nakoti, returned with him from Delhi where they served him during those 2 months. Our general manager, Dr. KK Upreti and Swami Uttamananda, went to meet him at the airport and escort him back to Rishikesh. Mother Pal, who has been a student of Swamiji since his teen years, was also present along with Mrs. Kapoor, both of Delhi. Other dedicated seekers were here as well, coming from Mauritius, London, the US, and other distant places in India and abroad.

Shortly after Swamiji returned to his quarters here, most of us went to evening meditation in the Meditation Hall. Now he comes to nearly every evening meditation and to the full moon meditations. We feel so fortunate to have Swami Veda back with us.
