The Retreat began with the pujas at the Shiva and Divine Mother Temple and in the Meditation Hall before moving to Sadhana Mandir for meditation in the presence of Gurudev.

This was the second retreat since Swami Veda dropped the body and it had an auspicious start as Swami Veda made his presence felt.

At the beginning meditation, an Initiator trainee had the experience of Swami Veda crossing the room and stroking his forehead.

He remained in joy for the duration of the morning programme.

The retreat programme consisted of discussions amongst the participants on matters largely pertaining to Initiations while the series of practicums utilizing Swami Veda’s tapes served the purposes of training, refreshers and of sharing the mind-field during the programme.

We learned from the experience of others such as Dr. Prakash Keshaviah from HIHT, a very experienced Initiator. Amongst the delightful information he let on was Gurudev, Swami Rama, telling him when one is late for the appointed meditation, one keeps the Lineage waiting.

There was one difference in the programme this year. Many had felt that previous gatherings had not provided enough personal time, not in solitude or reflection, but in getting to know each other better. Ashutosh did an excellent job channeling his inner social director and had us sharing about ourselves. Starting with tea at Ammaji’s.

An important part of this sharing was it resulted in the overseas component such as myself getting to know better the resident component such as Adhikari, Swamis Tattvananda, Prayag Giri and Ramcharit Das. There was a significant increase in the comfort level amongst us. The greater acceptance of one another is not to be underestimated but indeed should continue to deepen with face-to-face interaction.

Another level of sharing was and continues in meditating together. Beyond the retreat  i.e. at home, Swami Ritavan suggested using the morning and evening meditation times at the ashram in addition to the 4 full-moon meditation times thus connecting the Samiti with  Initiates around the world.

The ashram’s weekly silence day was the occasion for a 12-hr Akhanda Japa with an Initiator present every hour

Next year’s retreat will begin on November 27. 2017 and the 90-day Silence starts December 3.
