Christmas & Children at SRSG

by Namita Sinha

“Baalyena tishthaashed baala-sva-bhaavah”
“Seek to remain in childhood, with child nature through whole life.”

Quoting from Su-baala Upanishad (Upanishad of the Beautiful Child), Swami Veda Bharati welcomed all children for the very first Children’s Retreat in December 2011 at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama.

To those who knew him in his physical body, know how well he embodied this principle – always living in purity and joy as that of a child. And for this reason he said, the retreat is open to all children from 0 to 100 years; he even called himself an “80 year old Swami who attended the retreat”.

Both Gurudeva Swami Rama and Swami Veda laid great emphasis on family life as a training ground for children. Swami Rama says, “Families are central training ground for the entire life. Family life is a preparation to accept and love the whole of humanity.” (Love and Family Life, Pg 4-6).

Swami Veda Bharati’s call for the retreat was:

“So that the grace and the practices and the teachings of meditation in our lineage may continue into next generations and meditation may become a family centered experience.”

The retreat is an experience of Himalayan Yoga Tradition as taught by Gurudeva Swami Rama and Swami Veda Bharati.  The retreat offers a holistic program for families that includes theory and practices of yoga, breathing, meditation, hatha yoga and activities to learn the application of yoga principles in family life.

Children get a rare opportunity to learn dance and music from classical Indian artists, share a joyful bond of friendship with other children from multi-cultural backgrounds, take nature walks by river Ganga, and participate in art-craft activities and plenty of play time in serene, open spaces of the ashram.

The retreat dates this year are 24th to 31st December, 2017, at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama, Rishikesh, India.

Please save your travel plans for a special Christmas for your family and join the retreat.
