In the article “On the 2019 Sangha Gathering” in this newsletter, Swami Ritavan Bharati brings to our mind “The Perennial in the Millennium” by Swami Veda and other elements in the path of yoga, and he also informs us about the 2019 Sangha Gathering, which is scheduled to take place 25th February - 5th March 2019 at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama (SRSG) in Rishikesh, India. The article contains a link to the YouTube video “Interview with Swami Ritavan Bharati” and the transcript of what he says in the video.

Significance of Yajna

Fire Offerings Ceremonies
The first word of Rigveda is agni (Cp. ignes, igneous, ignite, ignition). It was due to the Buddhist influence that the Hindus began to sculpt images 1. The Vedic religion was primarily that of worshipping divinities through the medium of fire. Very complex fire altars with geometric precision were built. What is now known as Pythagoras’ theorem is called Bodhayana’s theorem by many Hindus as it appears in Bodhayana’s text (14th century BC) on the construction of fire altars.

Death and Transition

The fear of death is one of our most prominent fears. We are all afraid of the word “death” and do not want to face the truth that we all have to die. Why do we fear dying? Death itself is not painful; only the fear of death is painful. When we take off an old shirt to put on a new one, we do not feel fear or pain; we are only pleased to have a new shirt. But the thought of taking off our body brings fear.
This is the way of the world.

2019 Sangha Gathering

When we look to the future, we look at how can we create opportunities for students to deepen their practice or to become familiar with, to be introduced to practices that they may feel that now they are ready for, now they would like to understand themselves through such unique ways of these prayers, contemplations, meditation, yoga practices, so we’re coming together with a special gathering next year.

Visit to Burkina Faso

It was such a wonderful surprise to receive an invitation to share the wisdom of the Himalayan Sages in West Africa from my dear brother Idriss Ouedraogo. The scale of his work and all the efforts he puts in spreading the teachings of the Himalayan Tradition and in support and promotion Swami Veda’s mission in Burkina Faso is quite amazing, and I was very fortunate to witness it personally.

The international Teacher Training Program for Levels One and Two had 30 participants from 15 countries (Australia, Canada, China, Greece, Hungary, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, South Africa, Taiwan, USA, UK, and Ukraine) during the March 11-24, 2018, retreat at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama (SRSG). Our Netherlands group joined the retreat with 6 participants for their “Special Teacher Training program” at SRSG. All these students had wonderful and fascinating ways in which they found about the tradition.

AHYMSIN South India Sangha

Veda Youth (youth wing of AHYMSIN) organized the very first South India Sangha Gathering in Bangalore. The retreat was conceptualized by the Veda Youth members, led by Namita Sinha. Older initiates and disciples – Jyothi Pattabhiram, Raghavendra Adiga, Dr. Krishnaveni, Dr. Mani, and Ashok Shanbhag – were instrumental in guiding and supporting the event.

Searching for my Guru
God’s Providence, like the blue sky, is forever above us all. And so, after searching for two decades, it was Divine Providence that led me to my Guru, Sri Swami Rama. It all started after I read Paramahansa Yogananda’s Autobiography of a Yogi in the late 1960s. That book inspired me to join the Self Realization Fellowship (SRF) program of the Yogoda Satsang Society founded by Yogananda. However, my search for a living Guru continued because SRF’s distance learning material could not fulfill my yearning for direct spiritual guidance.

Shankaracharya Jayanti at SRSG

Fresh with the memories of a fortunate and blessed trip to the ancient seat of the Bharati Lineage, established by the great Adi Shankaracharya, we decided to celebrate Shankaracharya Jayanti (his birthday on April 20) at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama (SRSG) by dedicating a whole day to remember him, his teachings, and his contributions. We gathered at the Shankaracharya temple to invoke the engage our senses in the meaningful rituals, invoking the sacred presence of the divine forces and Adi Shankaracharya.
