“The prophet from the divine thunder roars;
The Sage within our soul whispers.
The next thousand years will be whatever you have chosen today to make of them.”— Swami Veda Bharati in The Perennial in the Millennium
The 2019 Sangha Gathering at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama (SRSG) is taking place at this time with sadhakas coming from around the globe. Articles and photos are coming next month and on social media in the meantime.
“In our sangha gathering, members of the world organization, the AHYMSIN organization will honor the Tradition with the dictum of Swami Rama: Love, Serve and Remember, and take steps to apply the vision that Swami Veda left with us to inspire our spiritual-lives for future generations.”- Swami Ritavan Bharati
Energy of Consciousness in the Human Personality by Swami Rama can be read by clicking on the title.
Two videos with Swami Ritavan Bharati have been shared by Thaniya Kevalee. He wrote about the first video, “Swami Ritavan Bharati explained the silence motto during the retreat ‘Yoga of Life’, December 15-18, 2018, at Baan Phu Waan Sampran Nakhon Pathom.” And he wrote about the second video, “Swami Ritavan Bharati gave lecture about ‘Silence, A True Source of Inner Strength’ during the retreat ‘Yoga of Life’ on December 15-18, 2018, at Baan Phu Waan, Sampran, Nakhon Pathom, THAILAND.”
A video with Ashutosh Sharma has been shared by Thaniya Kevalee. He wrote about the video, “Why do we practice J&G (Joints & Glands) in our tradition? Most people do not have proper understanding about joints and glands exercises. Ashutosh has explained the real meaning and value of these exercises which are necessary and very beneficial for practitioners.”
Two videos with Stephen Parker (Stoma) were live-streamed on Facebook by Himalájai Jóga Tradició, the AHYMSIN centre in Budapest. One is a satsang from the last full moon meditation and the other is a book release event for the Hungarian translation of Clearing the Path.
A certificate for Swami Veda was recently received, Medha reports. The certificate is for honorary membership in the European Union of Yoga and calls Swamiji a goodwill ambassador of the EUY, an authority and focus point for promoting and transmitting the essence of yoga. The mahasamadhi of Swami Veda Bharati was 14 July 2015.
Events at SRSG for 2019 also include two Navaratri Pujas, Guru Purnima Retreat, 4th Anniversary of Swami Veda’s Mahasamadhi, Retreat for Initiates, Sri Vidya Seminar, Breath Retreat, and more.
Please see the Upcoming Events or contact ahymsin@ahymsin.org for more information about these and other programs at SRSG.
We invite you to share what is happening in their centers and your experiences, insights, and questions. With such sharing, we can learn more about one another and strengthen one another in our sadhana, becoming a true “sangha”. We welcome your articles. You can write to ahymsin@ahymsin.org

[This passage has been taken from the upcoming book titled Silence Volume II, Light Beyond Mind, to be published by Himalayan Yoga Publications Trust and planned for release during the Ahymsin Global Sangha Gathering of 2019 at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama, Rishikesh].
A meditation guide needs to know these processes that go on in the minds of the students and disciples. There are certain very subtle signs by which a meditation guide knows where a student’s meditation is going at any given time. The random visual imaginings are replaced by prescribed visual concentrations. Just as random verbal thoughts are replaced with the prescribed verbal mantra so also the random emotional associations and related visual imaginations are replaced by visual mantras.
The science of visual mantras is even more complex than the science of verbal mantras.
[This passage has been taken from the book The Essence of Spiritual Life, pp 104 – 105, by Swami Rama, Published by Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust.]
When for a moment I cast aside all rationalism and transport myself into the clear mountain air on the solitary rock, I spontaneously go into silence.
Solitude keeps me alive in a society that knows no laws of love and harmony.
All around the ashram the noises and sounds went on as usual, but here at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama (SRSG) it was a silent day: Monday, February 4th, Mauni Amavasya. The ashram is quite full at this moment, with many visiting sadhakas; 2 large groups had just arrived on Saturday and Sunday. So we celebrated the silence with many together.
The day started with the usual program: morning prayers, joint and glands, and silent meditation. The class was taught quite dynamically, preparing us for the long sitting periods we would do during the day. After breakfast there was some time for inspirational reading and I opened the new book Silence: The Illuminated Mind from Swami Veda and found the chapter “On Personal Silence”.
For the 14 Italians visiting the ashram, it was like arriving home. Most of the people of the group are students of the current Italian TTP (teacher training program), and it was their first time in India and at the ashram (SRSG). The stay, from mid-December and the first days of January, began in the best possible way: to sit for the full moon meditation of December. Ashram life always helps to deepen the practices and the introspection, as well as feeling a deep connection with the roots of Tradition. In this place we really can taste and perceive the tangible presence of the Himalayan Masters and meditators.
During our stay, there was also the Children's Retreat. It was beautiful to see kids of different nationalities, different languages and religions, being together, communicating, practicing, sharing personal experiences, stories and playing. So, for a while, at the ashram the practices were held for both adults and children in a very harmonious way, in which we lived moments of real fun like the Christmas night, with the presence of a wonderful Santa Claus who brought presents for all kids, and we sang and danced. Same for the 31st of December, when we all gathered around a big bonfire singing and dancing.
Namaste all! There has been a lot of work put into forming a stable Australian Himalayan Yoga Tradition community over the years. There are dozens of Australians who have visited India and one or both of the HYT ashrams, with several initiates living on this oldest continent in the world.
I have had a pleasure to be a part of the Australian sangha since the beginning of 2010, when a small group of sadhakas from South Australia and New South Wales organized the 1st weekend workshop in Adelaide.
The aim was to begin to network and conduct some practice teaching, as some of us had already participated in the TTP and needed the teaching hours. This was soon followed by another half-day workshop in Sydney in May 2010.
As the HYT network became somewhat more established, in particular in Adelaide, where Daniel Jalba was running regular meditation classes at Flinders University, it was decided that we would like to invite a more senior teacher to come to Australia. After months of preparations, we had the immense pleasure to host Swami Ritavan in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney in April 2011. Swamiji ran a weekend workshop with yoga-nidra as the main theme in each of the cities. All the seminars proved to be a great success.
Sometimes students have written to or asked Swami Veda, Swami Ritavan, and other senior teachers in our tradition questions about practice. This is one such “Question and Answer,” or Q&A.
Swami Rama stresses often on internal dialogue while I find it is a practice on which we (or at least myself) put enough time and effort. It is also hard for me to properly understand what really internal dialogue is. I hope someone will clarify...
