With a deep breath of fullness, exhaled as gratitude;
with mudra-hands filled with flower-petals of appreciation;
with dedicated action to serve,
may we be enlightened with opportunities to relieve the suffering of others
through this immense generosity of the spirit - our true nature of
"Purna" Wholeness and Completeness.
May your meditations reveal the way, the truth and the light.

Om, Purnam adah, purnam idam, purnat purna mudacyate,
purnasya purnam adaya, purnam eva vashisyate.
Shanti, Shanti, Shanti.”

“‘Let Light alone be your delight.’ Purification is the pre-requisite to reduce the totality of the world's pains with the light of kindness, compassion, and love.
Free yourself from these opaque wrappings of mind with:
Peacefulness of temperament;
Control over the sensual attractions and attachments;
Cultivate bhava, positive sentiments that guide your inclinations;
Patience and forbearance to withstand the pull & push of dualities;
Gentle and humble faith;
Evenness of character and temperament; dispassion means compassion, clarity of life's purpose and harmony of mind in resolving all questions.”
Swami Ritavan Bharati in “Diwali Message – 2020”

Reincarnation, Karma and Samskaras

by Swami Veda

[Transcript from “Reincarnation, Karma and Samskaras” (1976) by Pandit Usharbudh Arya, who later became Swami Veda Bharati.]

Going back to the subtle body and reincarnation, we understand by now that the human personality is an envelope for the spiritual life-force. The force does not change; the envelopes change. Therefore, I was never born. I shall never die. What will happen is that I will come into a fresh body; incarnate, into flesh. I'll put on a new envelope of flesh again, re-in-carnation. But I was never born. I shall never die. I cannot imagine a time when I was not. I cannot imagine a time when I shall cease to be. I came into a tiny something of sperm and ova, and they became fertilized. I remained there, so they grew. I lent them my life, radiating it throughout their bodies. So it became a fetus; it became a child; it became a woman; it became a man, remained a woman or a man. I shall go my way. This body will be dead. It will be cremated. It will be buried. It will be disposed of, but I shall remain. Now I have put on an envelope of mental personality. That mental personality rests in my subtle body. We understand by now what the subtle body is. It is not a body shaped like this. It is a composition of various forces around my being. My eye-consciousness, ear-consciousness, my pranas, my mind, my faculty of intelligence and discrimination, all of these are finer than the physical body, but grosser than the pure Spirit.

Understanding the Purpose of Life

by Swami Rama

[Excerpt from A Practical Guide to Holistic Health by Swami Rama, pages 10 – 14 in the 1980 edition.]

Attitude is the most important factor in realizing health. Many people actually want to be unhealthy, sad, and miserable. They develop the tendency more and more until they create that personality for themselves. Later on they become helpless and do not want to accept the fact that they themselves are responsible for their ill health. It is important for people to become aware of the fact that staying healthy is not merely a matter of good diet, taking vitamins, or even doing proper exercise. More crucial than any of these factors is keeping a healthy state of mind.

HYT-TTP Newsletter

Dear Himalayan Tradition family members,

We hope you and your loved ones are well and managing with all the changes that COVID-19 has created. As we look toward 2021, we are considering how best to serve you. Each year we have traditionally held a TTP retreat at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama (SRSG) in March and November. This year we were just able to complete our March retreat at Sadhaka Grama a few hours before the beginning of the Indian lockdown.

Our March retreat was one of our largest we ever had, with 26 level 1 students from 9 countries and 29 level 2 students from 10 countries, including large groups from Taiwan and Thailand.

As November drew closer without foreseeing that the situation would be back towards something normal, we had to accept the fact that we wouldn’t have the possibility to hold our November retreat this year. Nevertheless, we are still working very hard to continue to serve you in the best possible way, planning our retreats for next year.

Inspired on Bhaja Govindam

A Writing Inspired on Bhaja Govindam

Oh, Lord of Life! Grant me the strength and humility to revere You and surrender to You at every moment.
May the breezes of my thoughts lead me to Thee.
May the flames of my speech soften for Thee.
And may the purity and freedom of my actions rest forever in You.

Dear Yoga Mentor, My Question Is…

Sometimes students have written to or asked Swami Veda Bharati, Swami Ritavan Bharati, and other senior teachers in our tradition questions about practice. This is one such “Question and Answer,” or Q&A.

Does GOD judge us?

Swami Rama wrote in The Essence of Spiritual Life,

"Sit down and quietly think about what you have done in your life, because in the end, during the period of transition, you will have to face yourself. What have you done that is satisfying? Have you done anything selfless – totally selfless? You go on doing your work and reaping the fruit, and then you hoard. In this way there can be no liberation."

I think that this is THE only yardstick for GOD to judge.

Swami Nityamuktananda Saraswati, Stephen Parker (Stoma), Lalita Arya (Ammaji), Shi Hong, and Michael Smith have responded to this question.
