SUMMARY:Breath Seminar 2017
DESCRIPTION:Marilou Hermens will be teaching the 2017 Breath Seminar 31st October – 4th November 2017 at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama (SRSG)\, Rishikesh\, India. She will be assisted by senior teachers and the SRSG teaching staff. \nThis retreat will include subtleties of breath practices. \n“An intensive practice of Pranayama’s 3 times a day! It is a true gift to yourself. Complete breath\, kapalabhati (different levels for beginners and advanced)\, bhastrika (different levels for beginners and advanced)\, bhramari\, ujjayi\, nadi shodhanam (different types). All will be built up from the basics as has been taught by Swami Veda Bharati and on different levels for beginners and advanced practitioners. This seminar can be done while remaining in silence to deepen your personal inner journey. Beginners and advanced practitioners are all welcome and will be guided according to their level.” \n– Marilou Hermens \nMarilou: “It is my greatest desire to help as many people to learn to breathe healthy. The effects of a healthy diaphragmatic breathing are unprecedented. The breath is influenced by physical effort\, thoughts and emotions. The special feature is that the breath always keeps going. The trick is to learn to guide the breathing itself: the right place with the diaphragm\, slower\, quieter\, without fits and starts\, silently\, through the nose. The Himalayan Tradition teaches how with just small adjustments your practice and experience of stillness will deepen so much more. As the breathing is always central in all my classes of yoga and meditation and in every second of my daily life\, my senses have been trained to observe and to help others ” \nOpen to all \nCost: Cost of SRSG hospitality plus goodwill offering for instruction. \nMarilou Hermens is a faculty member of HYT-TTP (Himalayan Yoga Tradition – Teacher Training Program)\, teaches at the teacher training retreats at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama\, and serves as a mentor; she also has a center in the Netherlands. SUMMARY:Retreat-Seminar on The Heart of Recognition
DESCRIPTION:The Pratyabhijñā Hṛdayam\, “The Heart of Recognition”\, of Kṣemarāja (early 11th century)\, is a profound and concise summary text of the spirituality of non-dualist Kashmir Śaivism. Pratyabhijñā or divine recognition is the core philosophy\, as expounded by Utpaladeva (9th century) in his Īśvarapratyabhijñā Kārikās (“Verses on the Recognition of the Lord”)\, and Kṣemarāja\, genial disciple of Abhinavagupta\, gives an experiential key to this non-dualism. He places the mystical experience of pure Awareness at the centre\, giving both\, the background and the practical ways to reach the permanent state of samādhi. \nThis seminar\, which combines text study and practice\, will be especially useful for those who have already studied other texts of Kashmir Śaivism like Vijñāna Bhairava\, Śiva Sūtras\, Netra Tantra\, etc. For newcomers to this tradition\, it can prepare the ground for further study and practice. \nThe program includes two sessions of text teaching\, about 3 hours of meditation\, yoga and recitation of stotras of the tradition. \nThe teacher:\nDr. Bettina Sharada Bäumer is a direct disciple of the last Master of Kashmir Śaivism\, Swami Lakshman Joo (1907-1991). She lives in Varanasi since 1967 where she has her own teaching and research centre. She is an accredited Professor at the Universities of Vienna and Salzburg\, Austria\, in Religious Studies. She has taught at these and several other universities in Europe. \nShe has authored and edited 25 books in Sanskrit\, English and German\, and about 60 research articles\, mainly in the fields of Āgama/ Tantra and Kashmir Śaivism\, Upanishads\, Indian aesthetics\, temple architecture and religious traditions of Orissa\, and interreligious dialogue. \nRegular Practice:\nAttending this teaching would not in any way mean changing your regular practice in the tradition of our Gurudeva Swami Rama. \nDaily practice of usual hatha in our tradition and daily silent meditation of one hour will also continue. \nOfferings:\nAs we are having eminent high level scholar and sadhika as our guest\, in addition to covering the costs of SRSG hospitality\, to keep an offerings envelope ready to correspond with the level of her eminence. \nRequirements:\nExperience in meditation and yoga. Some knowledge of Sanskrit will be helpful. but it is not an essential requirement. \nOnly full participation will be allowed because the text needs to be studied in its entirety. \nA preparation course on Shaivite Tantra with Swami Ma Radha Bharati and Swami Prayag Giri. This course will include lectures by Swami Veda Bharati on Shaivism that were prerequisites for the earlier Shiva Sutra Seminar and provide background for seminars by Dr. Bettina Sharada Bäumer. This course is scheduled for 23rd-25th October\, 2017\, at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama (SRSG). \nContact:\nContact: ahymsin@ahymsin.org

SUMMARY:SRSG Presents: “Insight Seeing” March 16-21\, 2009
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the rich beauty of the Himalayas in late winter/ early spring as you wind your way up to the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. \nOn our first day we will head to the town of Ukhimath\, home of the Omkareshar Shiva temple and winter seat of the famed Kedarnath shrine. \nDuring winter when Kedarnath is buried in snow rising 2 meters high\, the head priest and other priests come down in procession to Ukhimath to do their worship.  Kedarnath is one of the four main pilgrimage spots of the region and a must do for all devoted Hindus. \nAt a 17 km distance from Ukhimath sits Sari Village. There we will start a 2.5 km trek up to the lovely Deoriya Tal Lake. Views of the majestic Himalayas can be enjoyed while resting by the calm lake waters. \nParticipants will also have the opportunity to visit some of the numerous temples in the region around Ukhimath.  The charged Kalimath temple\, sitting alongside the Kali-Ganga River\,  resonates with the palpable energy of the Goddess Kali. The famous Vishwanath Temple at Guptakashi sits behind a kund (pool) that is fed by two underground tributaries of the holy waters of the rivers Ganga and Yamuna.  Also at the Vishwanath temple complex\, pilgrims pay homage to the balance of opposing forces at the shrine of Ardhanarishwar\, the deity depicted as half Shiva\, half Shakti. \nThe male and female principles of the universe are further celebrated at a visit to the marriage spot of Lord Shiva and Parvati. A temple devoted to Lord Vishnu lies on an ancient bridle path at the village of Triyuginarayan.  At this holy spot legend says that Shiva wedded Parvati.  All the sages attended the wedding of which Vishnu himself was said to be the master of ceremonies. \nAs we head home\, awe inspiring views of the Himalayas can be further taken in at the Kartik Swamy temple\, a 3 km trek from the trail head at Kanakchowry.  Legend says that Kartikeya\, the son of Shiva and Parvati\, came here in a huff when his mother granted the Raj Tilak to Ganesha (his brother).  Kartikeya is worshipped here. \nParticipants should be in good health and able to trek. \nPlease register on or by Feb 25th.\nFor registration and cost information\, please write to sadhakagrama@gmail.com \nPictures by Dr. Stoma Parker
