SUMMARY:Maunam – Guided Silence Retreat
DESCRIPTION:As our beloved Swami Veda Bharati has said\, “The most profound teachings of the Tradition are in silence. The greatest growth of the human mind takes place in silence.” \n\nCome experience deeper levels of your inner self through the practice of silence. This six-day retreat\, away from the business of daily life\, will help you calm down the constant flow of random thoughts and emotions and rejuvenate yourself on all levels. This retreat includes two days of foundations and preparations to silence\, three days of silence practice and introspection\, as well as one day of sharing and assimilation. \n“Silence is such a profound and deep experience of human existence that only when we have understood silence would we understand all the inspiration that has ever flowed to humanity from the minds and mouths of its great saints and sages.” – Swami Veda Bharati

SUMMARY:Contemplations on Hastamalaka Stotram
DESCRIPTION:When Sri Adi Sankaracharya enquires from a boy: ‘Who are you\, my child?’ The response of the boy came to be revered as ‘Hastamalaka-stotram’. Composed by Hastāmalaka Acharya\, a disciple of Adi Sankaracharya\, the Hastāmalaka Stotraṁ is a short Vedāntic text of twelve verses that succinctly reveal the Knowledge of the Self. The greatness of this composition can be gauged by the fact that Sri Adi Sankaracharya himself wrote a commentary on it. It is extraordinary that the master of masters would compose commentary upon the work of his young student. This indicates\, not only the greatness of Hastamalaka’s verses\, but also the magnanimity of the Guru\, Adi Sankaracharya. \nSince\, to this young boy the knowledge of Atma-vidya was as clear as ‘a gooseberry’ (amalaka) kept on one’s palm (hasta)\, Acharya Sankara named him ‘Hastamalaka’\, and he became famous as one of the four renowned disciples of the Acharya. Hastamalaka Stotram is a contemplative text\, born of direct experience and is therefore profound in content and is truly a text for deep reflection and meditation. \nIn these special online study with Rabindra Sahu\, we will contemplate upon this beautiful and rich text of Vedanta\, and try to learn ways of applying this knowledge in our daily life. \nAs our Master Swami Veda Bharati would often remind us that it is not possible to put a price on the teachings received\, there is no course fee for this course. Loving donations from the heart may be offered and will support the ashram during the pandemic. \nTeacher: Rabindra Sahu\nBegins: 6 May 2023 (Saturday)\nThe 8 sessions will be organized over four weekends (Saturday and Sunday) at 6-7 PM IST (Indian Standard Time) from 6 – 28 May\, 2023.\nKindly convert to your country’s time-zone accordingly.\nMedium: Online through Zoom\nRequest: Kindly join only if you are able to commit to all the 8 sessions\, as the topics are progressive and systematic.\nLast Date for Registration: 5 May\, 2023 (Friday)\nFor Registrations/Inquiries/Donations: ahymsin@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Contemplations on Bhagavad-Gita: Chapter One
DESCRIPTION:Times of despair prod us into enquiry and can be our stepping stones on the path of divinity. \nIt was in such a state of anguish that Arjuna faced on the battleground when he turned to Lord Krishna for guidance. The first chapter of the Bhagavad-gita is titled Arjuna Vishada Yoga\, the yoga of Arjuna’s despondency and sorrow. In a state of confusion and dejection\, Arjuna the mightiest warrior of his times sinks into grief and depression\, and casts his bow and arrow aside. Sri Krishna as his charioteer imparts the teaching of the Bhagavad-gita to bring Arjuna out of the deluded state. \nThe Bhagavad-gita is a condensed essence of wisdom of the Upanishads. The first chapter provides the foundation for this major text as a starting point of the enquiry of a seeker. Many readers pay less attention to the first chapter. However\, it provides valuable insights into human personality. It introduces the characters\, the participants in the war and their symbolic personalities that open up many psychological and philosophical lessons. \nIn this residential retreat with Rabindra Sahu\, we will attempt to study the Bhagavad-gita through a disciplined process of Study-Contemplation and Implementation (Shravana-Manana and Nidhidhyasana).
