SUMMARY:Contemplations on Bhagavad-Gita: Chapter One
DESCRIPTION:Times of despair prod us into enquiry and can be our stepping stones on the path of divinity. \nIt was in such a state of anguish that Arjuna faced on the battleground when he turned to Lord Krishna for guidance. The first chapter of the Bhagavad-gita is titled Arjuna Vishada Yoga\, the yoga of Arjuna’s despondency and sorrow. In a state of confusion and dejection\, Arjuna the mightiest warrior of his times sinks into grief and depression\, and casts his bow and arrow aside. Sri Krishna as his charioteer imparts the teaching of the Bhagavad-gita to bring Arjuna out of the deluded state. \nThe Bhagavad-gita is a condensed essence of wisdom of the Upanishads. The first chapter provides the foundation for this major text as a starting point of the enquiry of a seeker. Many readers pay less attention to the first chapter. However\, it provides valuable insights into human personality. It introduces the characters\, the participants in the war and their symbolic personalities that open up many psychological and philosophical lessons. \nIn this residential retreat with Rabindra Sahu\, we will attempt to study the Bhagavad-gita through a disciplined process of Study-Contemplation and Implementation (Shravana-Manana and Nidhidhyasana).

SUMMARY:Maunam – Guided Silence Retreat
DESCRIPTION:As our beloved Swami Veda Bharati has said\, “The most profound teachings of the Tradition are in silence. The greatest growth of the human mind takes place in silence.” \n\nCome experience deeper levels of your inner self through the practice of silence. This six-day retreat\, away from the business of daily life\, will help you calm down the constant flow of random thoughts and emotions and rejuvenate yourself on all levels. This retreat includes two days of foundations and preparations to silence\, three days of silence practice and introspection\, as well as one day of sharing and assimilation. \n“Silence is such a profound and deep experience of human existence that only when we have understood silence would we understand all the inspiration that has ever flowed to humanity from the minds and mouths of its great saints and sages.” – Swami Veda Bharati

SUMMARY:Hatha Yoga Retreat: From Movement to Stillness
DESCRIPTION:The Himalayan Tradition is a meditative (dhyana) tradition. All the practices\, including asanas are practiced to prepare oneself for meditation. Hatha yoga is taught as an integrated practice\, which includes centering\, correct breathing\, breath-awareness\, stretching sequences\, joints & glands movements\, asanas\, subtle-body relaxations\, pranayamas\, and meditation. There is a focus on not only positioning the body correctly\, but also on experiencing what is happening within. Asanas are performed with reverence and gentleness in the mind\, moving from outside inwards. \nHatha Yoga\, as taught within the Himalayan Tradition is understood as “a continuum” involving all the eight limbs of Raja yoga\, especially Ahimsa.

SUMMARY:Himalayan Yoga Tradition – Teacher Training Program Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Our Himalayan Yoga Tradition – Teacher Training Program (HYT-TTP) offers an integrated program of self-transformation leading to self-realization in the authentic tradition of Swami Rama of the Himalayas. HYT-TTP\, as its parent organization\, AHYMSIN\, is dedicated to making available the teachings of Swami Rama. \nOur program is a systematic\, sadhana-based program. “Sadhana” is a Sanskrit word which means undertaking a practice so as to cultivate and refine one’s character. The main goal of our program is to deepen the students’ sadhana so that they can transmit authentic yoga teachings to others\, not only from a storehouse of academic knowledge\, but also from a depth of personal experience. \nOur comprehensive curriculum offered through home study\, mentoring\, and ashram retreats presents all aspects of yoga and meditation in a spiritually inspiring context. The student’s progression through the home study is managed interactively and facilitated by an active discussion board\, each student being followed and supported by a mentor who is well versed in the tradition. \nThe HYT-TTP consists of 3 levels. Each level requires at least one year of study and practice. The student will progress through three study levels becoming gradually more aware of the subtle layers of personality. Swami Rama defined this growth process as the attainment of some degree of disentanglement from attachments\, allowing one to see that which s/he was previously “blind to”: \n\nLevel One – Awareness: exploration and self-acceptance\nLevel Two – Control: mindfulness and regulation of emotions\nLevel Three – Synthesis: harmonious whole personality\n\nThe next HYT-TTP Retreats will be held on: \n\nNovember 6 – 19\, 2022: Level 1 & 3 Teacher Training Retreat\nNovember 21 – 25\, 2022: 500-HR Certification Retreat\nFeb 26 – Mar 11\, 2023: Level 1 & 2 Teacher Training Retreat\nMarch 13 – 17\, 2023: 200-HR Certification Retreat\n\nFor more details\, kindly visit – www.HimalayanYogaTradition.com

SUMMARY:Workshop Series on Sadhana in Applied Spirituality
DESCRIPTION:A little known and rarely understood but essential part of yoga is self-cultivation. For our yoga sadhana to reach the highest goal\, we must transform our personality into one that is primarily sattvic because this highest states of samadhi are only accessible to a sattvic mind. \nSwami Veda Bharati was a master of self-cultivation\, and\, in his book\, Sadhana in Applied Spirituality\, he laid out a sadhana for self-cultivation for those of us living in the world. This is advanced practice and it’s challenging. But success at this sadhana will bring rewards both in the world and in our spiritual quest. \n \nIn this series of workshops\, through talks\, introspection\, group dialogue\, and exercises\, we will read and discuss Sadhana in Applied Spirituality with an aim to both understand and practice the prescribed sadhana and integrate it into our lives. \nWorkshop sessions will occur every other week and you’ll have “homework” (practices) to do in-between sessions. Practitioners at all levels of yoga practice may benefit from this course. \n\nAbout the Workshop Leader:\nRandall Krause is a Senior Teacher and Mentor in the Himalayan Yoga Meditation Tradition. He has been an initiate more than 30 years and spent much time learning closely from Swami Veda Bharati. He also often personally served Swamiji in India and America. He has taught the Himalayan Tradition in the USA\, Europe\, India (at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama)\, and in Thailand and Taiwan. Randall has closely studied “Sadhana in Applied Spirituality” and experimented with applying the principles in his own life.

SUMMARY:Yoga is Samatvam: Bhagavad-gita
2.48 \nPerform actions dwelling in yoga\, abandoning attachment\, O Conquerer of Wealth\, being alike to success and failure. Equanimity is called yoga. – Bhagavad-gita Ch. 2\, v. 48. \n \nThe Bhagavad-gita propounds sadhakas to perform their daily actions in a manner that does not create any conflicts or suffering for themselves or for others around them. When faced with objects of opposite natures—pain and pleasure\, sorrow and joy\, one may learn to observe the fleeting nature of the world and maintain the awareness of one’s own essential nature. \nSwami Rama in his commentary\, the Perennial Psychology of the Bhagavad Gita\, has explained Samatvam as “the sense of equanimity. It is the characteristic of a yogi who is ever established in knowledge. Such a yogi sees no difference between gold and dirt\, heat and cold\, pain and pleasure\, and so on.” \nIn this contemplative study with Rabindra Sahu\, we would try to learn and apply the principles of this samatvam in our daily life. \nAs our Master Swami Veda Bharati would often remind us that it is not possible to put a price on the teachings received\, there is no course fee for this course. Loving donations from the heart may be offered and will support the ashram during the pandemic. \nTeacher: Rabindra Sahu\nBegins: 7 Jan 2023 (Saturday)\nThe six sessions will be organized over three weekends (Saturday and Sunday) at 6-7 PM IST (Indian Standard Time) from 7 – 22 Jan\, 2023.\nKindly convert to your country’s time-zone accordingly.\nMedium: Online through Zoom\nRequest: Kindly join only if you are able to commit to all the 6 sessions\, as the topics are progressive and systematic.\nLast Date for Registration: 6 Jan\, 2023 (Friday)\nFor Registrations/Inquiries/Donations: ahymsin@gmail.com \nRecommended Readings:\n1. Perennial Psychology of the Bhagavad Gita by Swami Rama\n2. Bhagavad Gita by Swami Madhusudan Saraswati

SUMMARY:Happiness is Your Creation
DESCRIPTION:To be happy is to live free of worries and disappointments. Yet this seems often elusive as we go about leading our day-to-day life. It is important thus to identify the causes of our unhappiness and find the direction that allows us to keep centered and joyful at all times. \nSwami Rama in his book by the same title has said\, “You are a Creation of God\, but happiness is your creation. You are equipped with everything you need to live a happy life. Your only job is to discover the source of happiness within and infuse your surroundings with that inner happiness.” \nIn this in-person retreat with Rabindra Sahu\, we explore the keys to unlocking the happiness within by learning to transform our habit patterns and by creating a harmonious balance between our body and mind. By cultivating the right attitude towards our duties\, relationships\, and our relative position in the world\, we can consciously create the conditions that allow us to live happily within and in this world.

SUMMARY:Mauni Amavasya (Silence Day)
DESCRIPTION:Mauni Amavasya (Silence Day) is an annual observance. The observation of Silence Day is a practice that Swami Veda Bharati invited us to practice. \nIn 2022\, Mauni Amavasya is 1st February. \nIn 2023\, Mauni Amavasya is 21st January. \nSwami Veda has said\, “…there is also an annual silence day in the traditions of India. It is called Mauni Amavasya. Mauni means ‘of or for silence’\, and amavasya means ‘no-moon day.’ \nIt occurs on the no-moon day of the Maagha month in the Hindu calendar when sun and moon are both supposed to enter the sign of Capricorn (makara rashi). \nIt is held in the tradition as the day when Manu\, the Archetypal Man first appeared on earth; he wedded Shata-roopa (She of a Hundred Beautiful Forms) and generated humankind.” \nHe has further explained that the practice of silence is not limited to Indian spiritual traditions only – “On the other hand\, if you prefer to be true to some western tradition you may research if there was a day sacred to Harpokrates\, the Greek god of silence whose statues have been found as far away as the Gandhara country (present day Afghanistan). Harpokrates was derived from the Egyptian god Harpa-khruti\, the child Horus\, representing the daily new born sun\, the source of light. \nOf course\, there is an amplitude of Christian saints who have taught silence and there are numerous monasteries of various orders dedicated to silence.” \nHe further has shared that – “…I would like many of my friends to set aside at least one day to share the silence with me just as you have shared the full moon day for an hour each month for more than a decade now. \n…If you plan from now\, you can arrange your worldly affairs in such a way that they do not interfere with your one-day vow of silence. \nOn that day\, no driving (except for emergencies)\, no TV\, no conversation\, just self-observation\, contemplation\, japa and learning (1) to give love in silence while (2) learning to love silence. \nMay I ask all our swamis\, initiators\, spiritual advisers\, teachers\, centre leaders to kindly popularize this concept and take this year to prepare the people to undertake this one-day vow of silence.” \nThis sacred day is celebrated at SRSG by all ashramites and visiting sadhakas as well as globally by the AHYMSIN community. \n\nRecommended Readings:\n\nSilence (Vol. 1) by Swami Veda Bharati\nSilence (Vol. 2) by Swami Veda Bharati\nMotto for All Future Silence Days by Swami Veda Bharati

SUMMARY:Spirituality: Transformation Within & Without
DESCRIPTION:Today\, we have access to every conceivable kind of knowledge about the world around us\, yet few of us have even the dimmest knowledge of our innermost selves. The ancient teachings of the Himalayan Tradition call on us all to return to the fundamental values of mankind\, especially as they are articulated by the sages. \nIn this residential retreat with Rabindra Sahu\, we will learn how to integrate these values in our own day-to-day life to find our own inner truth. \nAs Swami Rama has said in his book – Spirituality Transformation within & without\, “Nothing is more mysterious than life itself\, and there is no peace without penetrating that mystery. The mystery lies deep in the stream of life. There is an eternal knowledge\, not in the outer world\, but in the center of Consciousness.”

SUMMARY:Yoga Nidra Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Yoga Nidra is a state of conscious sleep in which one is in deep sleep and yet remains fully conscious. The yogis use this technique for both sleep and meditation. The quality of rest one receives through this method is entirely different from that which is derived through ordinary sleep. \n“For decades we have guided the shavasana practices and yoga nidra in sessions where the teacher does the ‘recital’ and others listen and follow. But we have not TAUGHT the procedures.” — Swami Veda Bharati \nGuided practices done in shavasana will be taught in proper sequence\, leading to different stages of Yoga Nidra\, so students can better absorb and assimilate the effects and awareness which the posture and practices have generated. \nUnder the guidance of senior teachers\, some of whom have been practicing for over 30-50 years\, this in-person retreat offers a revitalizing practice that gives total rest to the mind\, brain\, nervous system\, senses\, and body. Yoga nidra supports and strengthens the meditational technique and can be applied to learning subtleties of life. \nTo learn more about Yoga Nidra:\n\nFour States of Yoga Nidra by Swami Veda Bharati\nDefining Yoga-Nidra: Traditional Accounts\, Physiological Research\, and Future Directions by Swami Veda Bharati\, Dr. Stephen Parker (Stoma) and Dr. Manuel Fernandez.\nYoga Nidra Refined Silence by Swami Veda Bharati\nMastering Yoga Nidra by Swami Veda Bharati\nYoga Nidra\, Part 1 (video) with Swami Veda Bharati\nYoga Nidra\, Part 2 (video) with Swami Veda Bharati\nYoga Nidra (video) with Swami Veda Bharati\nMy Experiments with Yoga Nidra: Inward Perceptions by Swami Veda Bharati\nA Brief Form of Yoga Nidra by Swami Veda Bharati\nDear Yoga Mentor\, My Question Is… “difference between yoga nidra and meditation” by Swami Ritavan Bharati\nA Successful Yoga Nidra Retreat by Dr. Stephen Parker (Stoma)\nUse of Yoga Nidra for Creativity and for Enhancing Intuitive Faculty by Swami Nityamuktananda Saraswati\nAfter 3 Years of Yoga Nidra by Riccardo Valdettaro\nAfter Years of Yoga Nidra I Am Moved from the Inside\nConquering Sleep: The Practice of Yoga Nidra by Randall Krause (Mokshadeva)\n\nRecommended study materials:\n\nPath of Fire and Light\, Volume 2 by Swami Rama\nEnlightenment without God by Swami Rama\nOm the Eternal Witness: Secrets of the Mandukya Upanishad by Swami Rama\nExercise without Movement as taught by Swami Rama\, Vol. 1\, by Swami Rama\nMandukya Upanishad (Video Series) by Swami Rama: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqWXsj2xZg4&list=PLEF1719C37C7BA62E\nProving the Power of Meditation\, Swami Rama in Probe magazine\, 1973: http://www.swamiramasociety.org/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/swamiramaprobe1973.pdf\n1973 Britannica Yearbook of Science and the Future\, Excerpted from “The Psychic Boom” by Samuel Moffat http://www.swamij.com/pdf/swami-rama-britannica-1973.pdf\nExercise without Movement audio with Swami Ritavan Bharati\nMy Experiments With Yoga Nidra\, by Swami Veda Bharati\n\nThere are also three audios below. SUMMARY:Sacred Journey
DESCRIPTION:Innately all human beings know that life has a higher purpose\, even though they may argue and create philosophies that maintain that life is aimless or an accidental phenomenon in an infinite universe\, and thereby nourish and strengthen an inner emptiness and discontentment. \nWe tend to project that unhelpful and unhealthy interior state into our daily lives and begin to try to fulfil that sentiment of absence looking for completion from the objects and comforts of the world – mostly through our relations and possessions – or even in all kinds of vices\, which eventually leads us to even more misery and sorrow. But the paradox is that\, despite all of it\, we remain attached to the transitory little pleasures. Without realizing what could give us eternal happiness\, we keep on going gathering things and renewing relations\, and thereby intensifying our bondage and attachment to them. This dependency on the worldly objects for pleasure leads to a very deep-rooted fear of death – the fear of losing all these material things. \n“In one way or another everyone strives for happiness\, calmness\, and peace of heart and mind.” \nThe Ancient Sages\, through the transmission of the perennial wisdom revealed to them\, especially in the Upanishads\, have showed us that the way to dispel the darkness of confusion and ignorance from our mind is by learning how to think properly in order to discriminate between what is the Absolute Reality and what is Its temporal manifestation\, which is subjected to change\, death and decay. \nSwami Rama also stated in the Introduction of the book on same title:\n“To understand death\, a person must try to understand the purpose of life and the relationship between life and death. The two are partners\, each providing a context for the other. Death is not a period\, but merely a pause on a long journey. When life and death are accepted as having real meaning and purpose\, and death is understood and accepted as part of the human journey\, then the fear of death disappears\, and life can be lived fully.” \nBy thinking properly and correcting our understanding we can live a life purposefully and experience the transition period gracefully.

SUMMARY:Zoom Workshop on "The Dhammapada"
DESCRIPTION:The Dhammapada: Timeless Teachings of The Buddha\nthat Every Himalayan Yoga Student Should Know\nThe Dhammapada is a collection of gemlike sayings or aphorisms taught by The Buddha. These teachings are rich with wisdom and are not exclusive to Buddhism. Many of the same teachings were taught over the years by Swami Veda Bharati. By reading and contemplating these teachings\, we learn about our own Tradition. \nAlthough it may not be widely known\, Buddha’s teachings are considered one of the sources of the stream of light known as the Himalayan Tradition. \nThis workshop will be an introduction to the Dhammapada. Rather than purely a lecture\, the workshop will be interactive and include opportunities for introspection\, discussion\, and practice. \nIf there is sufficient interest after this first session\, we may turn this workshop into a series of workshops so we can go through all of the teachings\, one by one. \n\nAbout the workshop leader:\nRandall Krause (Mokshadeva) is a Senior Teacher and Mentor in the Himalayan Yoga Meditation Tradition. SUMMARY:Zoom Workshop on "Lessons I Received from Swami Veda Bharati"
DESCRIPTION:Swami Veda Bharati was a consummate teacher\, well known for his brilliant writings\, lectures\, and recordings. But\, because Swami Veda lived his teachings\, many of his most important lessons were received by being in his presence. \nRandall Krause (Mokshadeva) was fortunate to spend significant time in Swami Veda’s presence over three decades\, both as a student and as an intermittent personal assistant. \nIn this workshop\, through talk and through recounting stories of experiences he had with Swami Veda\, Randall will pass on some key teachings. This will be an interactive workshop\, not just a talk. The participants will have opportunities to introspect\, dialogue\, and develop their understanding of the lessons being imparted. \nIf there is sufficient interest after this first session\, we may turn this workshop into a series of workshops so we can go through all of the teachings\, one by one. \nAbout the Workshop Leader:\n \nRandall Krause (Mokshadeva) is a Senior Teacher and Mentor in the Himalayan Yoga Meditation Tradition. He spent years learning closely from Swami Veda Bharati\, and time personally attending to Swamiji in India and elsewhere. He has taught the Himalayan Tradition in the USA\, Europe\, India (at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama)\, and in Thailand and Taiwan. \nRandall is a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider and so attendees may count the time spent at this workshop toward their Yoga Alliance continuing yoga education requirements. \nIn addition to his yoga teaching\, Randall has practiced law and mediation\, and served as a Personal Coach.
