Hari Om Dear Visitor, |
The Treasure~ Swami Rama It is concealed within the heart of all beings. The treasure according to Vedanta is Atman, the Self or absolute Reality, that exists within all individuals. In the language of the Bible, Atman is the image of God, that which is identical to Brahman, pure consciousness, ultimate Reality, or however else we attempt to express with words that which is indescribable. Atman and Brahman are one, just as Jesus said, “I and my Father are one.” “Be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect,” Jesus told his disciples. Know your identity with God. You are the same but have forgotten it, is the message. So remember. Do that essential work of remembering, of getting the clutter removed so you can remember. Let’s define some terms here, with the understanding that words are subject to limitations, whereas what we are talking about is beyond words and intellect. As the book of Tao says, the Tao that can be spoken of is not the real Tao. So also the Buddha instructed his disciples not to think or argue about God. Because of this instruction, Buddha and Buddhism are misunderstood as being atheistic. What the Buddha meant was that God, or pure consciousness, is beyond the limited mind, beyond the intellect. As soon as God is considered and defined by the limited mind, God becomes limited. So Buddha told his disciples to concentrate on removing the barriers that separated them from the true Self. When that is done, then whatever we call the ultimate Truth reveals itself. Read more |
Lectures at the 2013 Sangha Gathering – Lecture #3~ Swami Veda Bharati Om. Hari Om. We have been discussing the stations in spiritual progress and the stations in the progress in meditation also. Because many times people inquire: “How do I know whether I am making progress?” So I have given you some readings and some recordings which will help you. And we have covered some ground in the last several days. … People are asking me: “Will you answer e-mails during your silence?” Learn how to ask a question. Narrow it down to what your real question is. If you are sending me a three-page letter with the whole history of your emotions, I will not answer. I am not in the business of being a psychotherapist; I am a meditation guide. Find out first. We call it in Sanskrit manthana (“churning”) and pulling the cream up. What exactly is the question? Half the answer is in knowing what the question is, and then write the question in one line; then I will answer. So it’s up to you, whether you want the answer or don’t want the answer. Sometimes it takes me four hours each night to answer all the e-mails. I cannot continue to do that. So your need for speech will become reduced. Your voice will become gentler. I find that people speak too fast. Your speech will slow down. Before you notice it, other people will notice it. Your speech will have a calming effect on others, not an agitating effect. That does not mean that you will become uncommunicative. As you make spiritual progress, you will become a better communicator because your communication will be positive, beneficial, measured, [and] pleasant. And in fewer words you will communicate much. Gurukulam: Nurturing the Sacred Journey~ Dr Swati Saharan On the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima (21st July), with the blessings and guidance of the Guru Lineage, we welcomed the third batch of Gurukulam with three Indian students – Arun, Manisha and Prudhvi (left to right in the photo below). The one-year residential program for the Gurukulam has been carefully designed and planned to encompass the teachings of the Himalayan Tradition as taught by Swami Rama and Swami Veda. The focus is to support and nurture self-observation, self-examination, self-purification, and self-pacification that leads to Self-transformation. The daily schedule for the Gurukulam students begins at 5 am with the Yajna of the Ganpati Mantra, followed by the ashram prayers, joints & glands practice, pranayama, and guided meditation classes. They have special classes thrice each day at 10 am, 3 pm, and 8 pm. While, the afternoon breathing class and evening hatha yoga practice are shared with our visiting sadhakas. Every week, Thursdays are devoted to the practice of silence, fostering inner stillness, while Sundays are dedicated to the practice of Karma Yoga, wherein they contribute towards the ashram in some way. With Swami Ritavan’s guidance, the Gurukulam curriculum has been designed to be essentially very dynamic in nature, thus can be adapted to the students’ needs and requirements. This year the Gurukulam students are all new to the teachings of the Himalayan Tradition. Therefore, our focus will remain on setting a solid foundation of yoga meditation practices for all of them. In the past two months, the students have been learning about proper sitting, proper breathing, relaxation, and understanding the foundations of meditation and its practice, along with Sanskrit. All the subjects are taught in an immersive, in-depth manner. We began with a study of the most foundational and important text of our beloved Swami Veda Bharati—Night Birds—with Gurukulam Acharya, Rabindra Sahu. This was followed by a study of one of his most beautiful books—Mind – The Playground of Gods. Read More |

Let people know us by how we love~ Ilaria Sarri A new big circle, a new big party: thus ended the fourth year of the Italian TTP, in the presence of Pt Ashutosh Sharma. “Cultivating our selfless love and compassion for other beings is the most important thing we can do. Even Jesus said it to his disciples: Let people know us by how we love”. “Let people know us by how we love them in teaching”, “This is just the beginning of our sadhana! Bringing the heart of this lineage to all people, bringing it out, is the most beautiful thing we can do!”. (Stoma ji, connected from Minneapolis, opening the final sharing of the Italian TTP). “We are blessed with the love and light of our guru-guided path through those words: Love, Serve, Remember. We remain steadfast to continue on the path of light serving selflessly as our expression of gratitude”. (Part of Swami Ritavan's message to all attending the final session of Training on the Path of Giving, Sharing, and Loving). With these inspiring thoughts and words we opened one of the most powerful moments of the final Italian TTP Retreat. Love, fragility, family, acceptance, harmony, openness, mission, caring, sharing, transformation, freedom, motivation, emotional independence, healing were just few of the many wonderful words that accompanied and warmed the intimate and sacred space of the sangha, united in listening and embracing the other. Family Summer Camp in Greece in 2024~ Report by Sofia Foteina The second year of the Ahymsin Family Summer Camp is already completed with great joy of all of us. This time we can call it a European gathering, as most of the participants were from Hungary, the Netherlands, Italy, and Greece. It was really a beautiful meeting of people of different ages, from one year old to almost 80 years old. The central theme we worked on was “We are all one, nobody is alone”, as is stated by our Gurus, and in many ways united by our dreams and our purpose in life. To evolve not only respecting our material part but evolving in the spiritual realm. The participant family members said it all. Nothing to add. In the following lines, I tried to mention everything at least once, except our appreciation of the wonderful nature that is really a gift from God and from the scouts that take care of the place. Here is what was shared with us by the participants - - The teachers were like mothers who took good care of us during the classes. Their presence was like a balsam in the heart. Great location. - I liked karma yoga, planting included. I enjoyed that time with all the children and the parents. - I like one hour a day meditation, videos of Swami Rama and/or Swami Veda. This retreat was great. Thank you all. - Everything was wonderful, unique. We learned a lot, we felt even more, and I wish everything becomes part of our life. I wish from my heart that this collective present continues to be given to us. Read More~ A few photos ~ Experience Sharing by Louise Molenkamp For the second time a summer camp in Greece was organized by Sofia Foteina from the Himalayan Tradition in Greece. Nikos, the friendly taxi driver, was waiting for us at the airport in Athens and in less than an hour we arrived at the camp. The location is great, it is a scouting camp in the forest so there is plenty of shade. It can be very warm in Greece and this time it was 36 degrees Celsius. But luckily, we had a comfortable room with air conditioning. And the camp is very close to the seaside, so every now and then there is a bit of wind cooling us. What I like very much is that there are no tourists at the beach there, besides us that is. A nice walk of only 5 minutes in nature will take you to the seaside with a small sandy beach. The first evening after arrival we met and did a body percussion game to introduce ourselves. Tamara was guiding it. We shared what we like, what we don’t like and got to know each other a bit. Very soon there was a friendly atmosphere with lots of laughing also. We had a conversation about the subject UNITY and what it meant for us personally. We talked about love, sharing, caring, listening to each other, cooking, communicating and working together. Every morning at 6 am, before first yoga class began, we met at the gate with Laura and a small group to go to the beach doing some simple standing exercises and after that a nice refreshing swim. After that, at 7 am, there was yoga class in an open space under the trees guided by teachers from the Himalayan Tradition. At 8.30 am, we were ready for a marvelous breakfast. The cook did a great job for us, three times a day there was so much tasty and nutritious food. Read More |
