Swami Hari on Kindle

It is available on Kindle in India for only 99 Rs. All royalties from the book (70% of the purchase price) go directly to SRIVERM, the school in the remote Himalayas founded by Swami Hariharananda Bharati.

The book is a rare first-hand glimpse into the life and teachings of a Himalayan Yogi. Swami Hari was a direct disciple of Swami Rama. He spent many years at the remarkable holy Shiva shrine of Tarkeshwar, located in the high Himalayan foothills.

Here is the latest SRIVERM update:

The Swami Rama Institute of Vocational Education and Research, Malethi, India was established by Swami Hari in 2005.

One of the major objectives of SRIVERM School is the upliftment of the poverty stricken Himalayan Mountain Foothill population, including females and the physically challenged, through education.

LOCATION

Sriverm is situated at village Malethi in Pauri Garhwal region of Uttaranchal which is 7 km from Satpuli, 60 km before Pauri, 150 km from Rishikesh and 200 km from Dehradun. The Institute campus is called SRIVERM which is spread on a hilly terrain covering an area of about 30 acres providing a pollution free academic environment.

OBJECTIVES

Some objectives of SRIVERM are:

To provide pollution free quality education: Children’s School consisting of nursery through 8th class, a Vocational/Polytechnical School and a Bachelor of Education College
To provide need based quality manpower development programs as per socio-economic requirements of the area
To promote self employment among the youth
To reduce the migration of youth from villages to the cities
To promote cultivation of herbal plants and their processing
To promote research in vocational education and herbal sector
To establish links with the world of work in India and abroad, sharing experiences for mutual growth and development
To promote income generation of village women group
To promote ecological balance and awareness towards health and safety
To promote yogic approaches to health and develop human values
To serve hot lunch for the poorest families whose children are at risk of malnutrition

HERBAL SECTION

In co-ordination with RDI, Rural Development Institute:

Growth of roses, rosemary, lemon grass and other marketable plants.
Provides education and training and employment to some of the area villagers in the cultivation of herbal plants and their processing. Marketing of herbal products produced by the community is one current challenge we face now.
Research plans for the future

Meditation center for meditation, yoga and photo availability of spiritual leaders
Generator for times when regular power supply is not available
Two buses, and one jeep for transporting children

FUTURE DIRECTIONS

To provide proper protection to slopes,
Providing on site or nearby health services *
Expanding the present technical and vocational education facilities as per need and aspirations of mountain villagers
Maintain current operations in the midst of rising costs. Example: The cost of gas in 2008 was 25 cents. Now it is $6.75.
School repairs and updating

*Note: One weekend in August a first aide course was given to villagers in co-operation with the Rural Development Institute. Qualified, professional instructors were sent to Sriverm campus. Two people were chosen from each village to attend classes and service their village in the future. According to our Holland visitors, the training was excellent. They will be sending some photos.
