Dear Yoga Mentor, My Question Is…Sometimes students write to or ask Swami Veda and other senior teachers in our tradition questions about practice. This is one such “Question and Answer,” or Q&A. Question: I had an illness that recurred, and the doctor has given me medical advice. I don’t know what to do. What is the sense of this illness? I know the physical way is not the spiritual way, but I don’t understand why this is coming again. Answer from Swami Veda Bharati: For the past 37 years, I have lived with chronic serious illnesses, which, with old age advancing, have intensified. I do my meditation practices and take best advantage of the advancements in medical sciences, including all the necessary tests. So I would suggest that you do not neglect your doctors' advice. My formula is: do not make body conditions into mind conditions. One cannot tell as to which karma, from which previous thousands of lifetimes, is ripening at this time. As to what mission the masters want you to carry on, please follow your intuition.
