Teacher Training Program in Chile

by Manuel Fernandez

(Para español mira www.hytchile.org/retiro-hyt-ttp-acreditado-por-yoga-alliance-en-chile-del-12-al-25-de-enero-2013-y-en-adelante )

I am happy to share with you the great news that Swami Veda, Swami Ritavan, and the TTP administrative staff  among others, have welcomed the creation of a bilingual Spanish-English 200-hour  yoga teachers' training program in Chile, which will hold Level One retreats every second and third week of January, starting this January: 12-25 January 2013. It is already announced at: www.ahymsin.org/main/index.php/Events-Maps-Schedules/upcoming-events.html.

The program will be a Registered Yoga School (RYS) with Yoga Alliance, so students can apply for the 200-hr Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) status if they wish, after completing all requirements. Everyone is welcome to participate, regardless of their Spanish fluency, as all classes will be taught both in English and Spanish.

We are expecting to bring international teachers from the Himalayan Tradition who possess the Yoga Alliance RYT status and there also will be a local teacher and translator who has the RYT status.

Both for those who need the RYT 200 and for those who are not interested in international accreditation, this two-week retreat in the Himalayan Tradition, in which one will learn hatha yoga prana vidya or yoga with breath awareness, with smooth and meditative movements according to one's capacity, is suitable for people of all ages and most conditions and will offer a unique opportunity for advancing our work toward personal and spiritual unfoldment.

For the subjects to be reviewed during the retreat and more details on the retreat's daily schedule, see: www.hytchile.org/subjects-to-be-reviewed-and-daily-schedule-during-the-level-one-hyt-ttp-retreat-in-chile .
After the retreat is over, each student is supervised in person or via Internet by a mentor during the following year to complete the home study, submit written assignments, and teaching practice credit hours so he or she can better assimilate and deepen the teachings and experiences received during the retreat, be eligible for the diploma, and, if wished, apply for the Yoga Alliance certification. During that year the student also has the right to access a precious reading and audio material from the Himalayan Tradition uploaded to a private website.

Please note that most of the reading and audio study resources will be in English. We will try to translate to Spanish as much of those as possible by the time the retreat is over, but for people who cannot read English at all it might not be easy to complete the home study workload in one year. A solution we have until now is to provide Spanish-speaking mentors with whom you would be able to discuss the readings and audios and your written assignments before submitting the assignments to the website. Assignments could be submitted either in English or Spanish.

Chile constitutes an ideal site for holding Spanish bilingual TTP retreats because of its location in South America, surrounded by Spanish-speaking countries and its flourishing economy, which makes it a safe, clean, and enjoyable place to visit.

We already have reservations in a beach retreat center near Santiago. For more information about the place and the costs of lodging, food, and transportation, see www.hytchile.org/lodging-meals-and-transportation  .

The cost of tuition for the 200-hr program in Chile will include all courses taught at the retreat and, after the retreat, access to the TTP private website resources and the one-year mentoring. Getting to know Chile

Chile offers very interesting attractions to the visitors who would like to extend their stay and do some travel within Chile. For example, Rapa Nui (Easter Island), with its famous and mysterious Moai is part of Chile—and so is the Robinson Crusoe Island. In northern Chile is the fascinating Atacama Desert, the driest in the world and with the most pristine skies and impressive starred nights, including the exotic San Pedro de Atacama village and the high altitude Aymara native enclaves and natural geysers. In southern Chile one can enjoy the gorgeous lake and cold rainforest district and the haunted island of Chiloé, and further south is Patagonia, the celebrated Torres del Paine, Magellan Strait, Cape Horn, and Antarctica. Even if one cannot travel far from Santiago, January is a pleasant California-like summer weather and there are beautiful beaches only an hour and a half drive from Santiago. Santiago is also at the foothills of the Andes mountain range and one can go to solitary hot springs and other mountain attractions only a 45-minute drive from Santiago. Also in Santiago and the nearby port city of Valparaíso, one can visit the famous houses of poet Pablo Neruda, go to charming and bohemian cafes, enjoying the artistic and intellectual life of the place. And for those who wish quiet spiritual inspiration during the Chilean visit, there is a mystical, alternative valley, El Cajón del Maipo, only a 30-minute drive from Santiago, and the magic Elqui Valley, with several ashrams and alternative communities, only a five and a half hour drive from Santiago.
