Three Principles of Communication

(This is an excerpt from Sadhana in Applied Spirituality by Swami Veda Bharati.)

Do bear in mind, in (a) speaking, (b) writing (c) lectures and teaching, the three principles of communication:

• hitam:
• speak only what is beneficial;
• speak in a manner that would be beneficial;
• - that it would be beneficial to (a) the listener (b) to your purpose and Mission.
• mitam:
• measured in intensity of emotion;
• measured in tone of voice;
• measured in choice of words, number of words.
• priyam:
• pleasant, so as to create pleasant-mindedness in yourself and in the listener(s).
