The Recent Initiators’ Retreat

by Swami Ritavan Bharati

The first annual initiators’ retreat was held 23rd November – 4th December 2014 at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama.  Among those who have been designated as mantra initiators, Swami Ma Radha Bharati, Swami Prashant Bharati, Swami Ritavan Bharati, Raghavendra Adiga, Helen Choe, Carolyn Hume, and Yoong were in attendance. Lalita Arya (Ammaji), Savitri Jugdeo, and Stephen Parker (Stoma) were able to attend part of the retreat. Alexander Benjamin, Swami Tat Sat Bharati, Linda Billau, Wolfgang Bischoff, Pandit Dabral, Shi Hong, Rajah Indran, Michael Kissener, and Swami Nityamuktananda Saraswati were unable to attend. In addition, possible initiators-to-be, Adhikari Bhoi, Swami Ramcharit Das, Pierre Lefebvre, and Ashutosh Sharma, attended.

Dear AHYMSIN Family,

The recent Silence Retreat & Initiator training with Swami Veda was a wonderful success with appreciation to the SRSG staff for their supporting efforts.

The opening and closing of the retreat was in the auspicious site of Sadhana Mandir under the Guru's guiding presence. And of the closing comments, the one "my mind is now clear" seemed to resonate with all of those attending.

The intensity of the retreat grew through adhering to the daily ashram routines, along with meditation times together and fire-offerings.

The retreat participants enjoyed listening again to selective guided meditation practices by Swami Veda that strengthened our understanding. Other audios emphasized the chakra system in choosing a chakra for an initiate's meditation.

At our daily initiator gatherings, in the first hour many agenda items were brought forward for discussion and discernment. In the second hour, Swami Veda shared his expansive knowledge of mantra-shastra, and specifically, gave more background to Jain mantras and their pronunciation.

Swami Veda tasked the initiators with points to use in further guiding initiates.

Also, he asks initiators to become more familiar with the supporting resources that are recommended, and use them frequently in their teaching.

Swami Veda emphasized that SRSG is the Heart of AHYMSIN, and encouraged all initiators to inform others, bring groups, and come with the purpose of teaching, initiating, and training ashram teachers in the next steps of meditation.

Each month of the next two years we are needing initiators on the SRSG campus and are currently working on a schedule to put this in place.

Finally, Swami Veda requested that all the initiators be present next year for the 10-day Silence and Sadhana retreat 23 November till 2nd December 2015.

The consensus among those present was to keep the 2016 Retreat dates at a similar time. This means 21-30 November 2016, 2017 TBD, and 2018 in conjunction with Swami Veda's special program - “In 2018 Swami Veda Bharati opens his silence for a year and there will be a major sangha gathering at the Ashram.”

Yours in service of the Lineage,
with love and Guru's Blessings,
Swami Ritavan Bharati
