Jenny Lee and DunHuang Energy Dance

Jenny Lee has kindly offered to serve as a volunteer at the Yoga Youth and Children’s Retreat in December 2011.

Jenny Lee comes from Taiwan and was initiated by Swami Veda five years ago. Jenny had worked for CYC (Chinese Youth Corps) almost 20 years focusing on education training and the outdoor activities of youth. During her service in CYC, she had organized a yoga group visiting Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama and studied TTP there. She had also invited Swami Veda and other teachers to teach yoga in Taiwan  several times.

Jenny Lee has also been learning DunHuang Energy dance since 2008 and has been teaching it in some schools and centers. In addition to Yoga and DunHung Energy dance, her interests also include painting, traveling, and meditation.

Swamiji has written "dance does not need words to communicate, it is a language everybody understands."

Jenny Lee writes, “I am very happy to go to ashram for helping the Childrens' Retreat in December this year, to offer my expertise to the youth, such as ‘DunHuang Energy Dance’, ‘Yoga Dance’and ‘Free Movement and Creation’ …I would like to be a volunteer and share the responsibilities if the program needs it.”

DunHuang Energy Dance

By Jenny Lee

DunHuang Energy Dance originated from the DunHuang Wall Paintings in China. The S-type of gesture generates energy, joyful happiness and healthy learning.

The Dunhuang Energy Dance involves body movements; the Tai-chi and Chi-Gong practices are breathing techniques. The fusion of these two takes the dancer to a higher state of consciousness.

S-shape of DunHuang Dance -- The Way of Generating Chi

Initiated from DunHuang cave paintings, DunHuang Energy Dance has her major gesture on S-shape of figures. The S-shape, according to DunHuang historical records, symbolizes the flow of Chi or breath. S-shape also resembles Yin and Yang (female and male) in ancient history. The type of practice DunHuang Energy Dance is proved as actually a breath dance.

According to Chinese study, breathe exercise may induce Chi (氣) within our body. Chi will lead the human body to create or generate energy. One has Chi to circulate in the body and blood circulation turns out smooth and healthy. If one has constant exercise on Chih and its circulation, he will continue on increase of immunity in the body.

Breathe Exercise -- Increase Energy within Your Body

A particular brain wave experiment has been conducted by Professor Li (李嗣涔) of Taiwan University along with several doctors from Hsin Kuang Hospital many years ago. The result of the experiment shows that when DunHuang breathe exercise has been experienced the brain wave goes into "tranquility". Professor Li explained that when one’s brain wave goes into "Vibration", it is in primary step of this exercise. But when he is in "tranquility", he is on top of practice.

It is delightful to know that DunHuang Breathe Dance has certain effect on human body especially brain wave.

Body, Mind and Spirit -- All Dimension Study for Good Health

People live in a world of pressure and stress today. Various kinds of sickness such as neurosis bring  a decrease of immunity in our body.

And whenever our body, mind and spirit were under attack by pressure and stress for a long time, we are exhausted. This is a so called energy crisis in our body, making us unbalanced. It is a good thing to practice DunHuang Energy Dance to balance our body, mind and spirit; especially when you meditate stilly  and keep silence after dancing, it is helpful to relax the body and easier to focus on the mind.
