Freedom from the Bondage of Karma

Karma – the activity of doing and being – is traditionally symbolized as a rope of many strands made of actions, thoughts, desires, and the latent, subconscious tendencies of personality, holding the human self in the bondage of suffering.
Swami Rama’s book titled – “Freedom from the Bondage of Karma” offers a series of perspectives on man’s most significant responsibility—that of self-understanding. If we are to attempt to understand ourselves and the world through the possibilities available to us within Yoga and allied systems, it becomes important for us to understand the full implications of karma as it appears within the yoga system. Analyzing the mechanisms of karma and the functioning of mind, Swamiji demonstrates the kind of self-study each student of life must undertake to gain liberation and attain freedom from the bondage of karma.
In this residential retreat with Rabindra Sahu, we will learn how karma has been understood in the Bhagavad Gita; what its effects are and how it functions, including in terms of the human mind; and how it is related to our spiritual practice and our modern-day life. We will thus explore the ways that we can take control of our own destiny by making conscious efforts in choosing our actions, thoughts and desires.
