From Dusk to the Dawn of a New Life
11 March, 2014 @ 12:27 am
Memories of My First Meeting with Swamiji and His Impact in My Life I was about eight years old when we met and my life was changed forever! Beginning of story: It was a long time ago in a densely populated village in a far away country in the Caribbean; the day was sunny with sweet breezes blowing softly in from the sea. Unfortunately, rather than enjoying this gloriousness I spent yet another day in deep sorrow, missing my Papa and praying that God should take my life, so that I can be with Papa in Heaven. But it seemed that God had other plans for he answered my prayer by ushering into my life a great human being who helped save my life in many ways.

The problem on the surface looks like alcoholism, drug addiction, prescription pill addiction, obesity, depression, loneliness, and hiding behind a spiritual teacher’s teachings. The cost of these symptoms is over $276 billion annually to society, not to mention the additional loss of being a non-productive member of society and the incredible negative impact these symptoms have on a person’s psychic and spiritual maturity.

The Gifts of Silence
11 January, 2014 @ 1:07 am
A sadhaka’s record of her inner journey during a vow of ten day silence. This past December I took on a vow of silence for ten days at SRSG. I had prepared for this mentally a few weeks before arriving by asking myself to not expect anything. I had never taken on a vow of silence before and I didn’t know what to expect or how to prepare for it quite frankly. So the best attitude seemed to be one of openness and a willingness to discover what the experience would bring me.

There is a theory that we each have a limited number of breaths and that once those are gone your time here on earth is done. This is the reason that many yogis work so diligently to prolong each and every breath. What if we were to apply this same theory to the number of words we each have to "spend" during our time here?

Effect of Yoga on Health
11 November, 2013 @ 1:21 am
The world of medicine today candidly admits that so far the underlying cause of disease has not been recognised in as much as we often treat only symptomatically or try to prevent complications rather than address the basic cause. For example, essential high blood pressure can to lead to kidney failure, heart failure and haemorrhage in the brain or a paralytic stroke. Drugs which bring down blood pressure do prevent these complications to a large degree, but at the cost of continued medication; their side effects and the disease is never actually cured.
Am I A Yogi?
11 November, 2013 @ 1:19 am
The answer to the above question is: far from it. In my view, a Yogi is one who dedicates his energy and time with the single purpose of escaping the mortal life to merge into the eternal super-conscious state (Brahman) from where he never returns. To achieve his goal, he dedicates his mortal life to austerities (Sadhana) that enables him to attain Samadhi, a state of eternal peace and joy.
