What is AHYMSIN Sangha?

4 March, 2023 @ 5:57 pm

As we all know, AHYMSIN was envisaged and founded by our beloved Swami Veda as a spiritual family. He emphasized this many times. It is a family not an institution or an organization. So, it is a spiritual family to learn, practice, and spread the teachings of the sages of the Himalayas as interpreted by Gurudeva Swami Rama. It is a lineage, a tradition as Swami Veda summed up beautifully in his guru prayer.

Lord Ganesha: The Lord of the Ganas Within

4 March, 2023 @ 3:39 pm

So, how do we understand Ganesha / Ganapati, and why is it beneficial to invoke him? Gana means “a group.” And isha means “the lord,” who is the leader of that group, that community. Whenever there is a summation, a company, a collectivity, Ganesha is the ruler. For example, Ganesha is the leader of the pancha jnanindriyas and the pancha karmindriyas. Who rules these ten ganas? Ganesha!

Choosing Your Mental Diet

31 December, 2022 @ 12:20 pm

Once in a while, I peek at some of the made-for-TV premium cable series, and am usually amazed at the graphic violence, hatred, greed, and blatant sexuality displayed in those programs. I understand, the cable companies want an audience and this sort of stuff attracts viewers, like a street fight attracts a crowd, and yet, “is this what I want to fill my mind with?” I ask myself.

Gangotri Sadhu Seva

6 November, 2022 @ 2:28 pm

A lesser known fact to me until last year was that our beloved Swami Rama, decades back, has started the service of donating food, grocery, vegetables, clothing etc to the sadhus, sadhakas living at Himalayas to survive the winter season as they don’t get access to these during this time. This service, with so much of love and care is still continued by the ashram with greater efforts in terms of planning and execution of the service. What an endeavour it is!

Speaking from Relaxation

5 November, 2022 @ 9:05 pm

Over the more than 30 years that I’ve been an initiate in the Himalayan Yoga Meditation Tradition, at times I’ve ventured out and attended hatha yoga classes at commercial yoga outlets. Often at those classes, I encountered teachers who shouted instructions like circus barkers or gym instructors. Not only did I feel agitated by those teachers’ tense voices, but I also wondered if those classes were in circus training rather than yoga. People were literally jumping into headstands and very challenging postures without awareness. I thought of those classes as Ego-yoga: yoga to expand one’s ego.

Where is Happiness Found

6 October, 2022 @ 3:20 pm

So where does happiness come from? Swami Rama says, "It is impossible to attain happiness in the external world, for happiness is only found deep in the innermost chamber of one's being. The Self is the center of happiness. Those who are realized are always filled with the happiness of the Self, and they alone find real peace in their hearts" (Perennial Psychology of the Bhagavad Gita, Pp. 219-220). Meditation is the path to find that center of happiness within.
