Prayer and Contemplation – Remember

Prayer is not conducted in Sanskrit or Arabic or English or Latin or any other language. Prayer should be conducted in your own language. Which is your language? It’s the same language in which a newborn baby speaks to her mother. It’s the language of love. You see how a newborn baby communicates with the mother Speak in any language, the child will have nothing to do with it. But when the mother says na, na, na, na, na, chu chu, chu, chu, chu, she communicates well with the child. Which is that language? The language of love. When our mind, our thoughts, our emotions, our whole being is integrated, when our mind and emotions go together, when we become one-pointed and with that feeling we pray, that prayer never goes in vain!

Prayer gives you strength. The highest of strength is received from that source which is already within you, through prayer. When you pray, whom are you going to pray to? The God Almighty who is everywhere? No. The Lord who is within you, seated deep down, beyond your body, breath and mind, in the innermost chamber of your being. Your prayers are always answered, when you pray in your own language, with mind and emotion joined together, with a one-pointed mind. You can pray at any time, but you should learn to discipline yourself. Morning and evening hours are considered best for prayer. But as I told you, pray directly to the Lord of life who’s seated within you. Gently close your eyes and with all your feelings and thoughts ask the Lord of life to give you wisdom and there you will find strength.

Meditation and Selfless Action – Serve

A human being cannot live without doing karma, actions. And when he does some karma he reaps the fruits of the actions. And those fruits lead him to do more actions and there is no end. He creates a whirlpool for himself and he cannot come out of that. Is there any way that you go on doing your actions and yet remain free from the bondage of karma? I say yes. If you grease your karma with love, then you will not have a problem. You have stress today, “My wife doesn’t listen to me.” She thinks, “My husband doesn’t listen to me.” They both are going through self-created stress. But if you simply change the concept, there will be no stress. Stress has become the big-gest killer today. Everybody says I have stress, I have stress. Why do you have stress? Wife wants to control the husband, husband wants to control the wife. Why do you want to control anyone? This tussle is going on all the time, in all families and you call it family life and love. When I come to your home, you all smile. When I go outside, then you start fighting. I know that and I understand. I think there can be harmony in the family if there is understanding, understanding on a higher level.

A man in bondage cannot think right. A man in bondage is a slave. A slave has no choice. How to be free from that? If I go on doing my duties, and I give the fruits of my actions to others, I will be free. Where are you committing a mistake? You are not giving up the fruits of your actions though you are doing your duties. Why do you do charity, tell me? You do charity because you think, “I will have a good name.” Then another level of charity, “If I do charity my ego will be cleansed. If I do charity I will get double that in my next lifetime.” Actually, why do you want to do charity? You want to do charity because you are holding on to something. Give away the fruits and be free.

Thus comes freedom from the bondage of karma.

There will be no bondage. We are all doing our actions but for others and renouncing the fruit. That’s why the family unit was created. The husband does actions for his wife, his wife for him and both do for their children and they in turn do for other children. So the family is meant to radiate love to all, not hatred. We have to start at home. We should create our family in such a way so that it radiates love.

Love and Relationships

There are two laws, the law of contraction and the law of expansion. Hate others, you are going through the law of contraction. Love all, you are going through the law of expansion. Learn to love, that is the law of expansion. What does love mean? It means to give, without any expectation, to your own people. This is a school where you learn to give unconditionally. Then you will learn that nothing is difficult for you, nothing is difficult. First thing you should learn is to just give. Instead of arguing with your wife, just give her what she wants. Just give your children what they want. Slowly, you will discover that they have started loving you so much and they have become so very consider-ate. They will never exploit your generosity. Learning to give is one of the greatest of arts. Give selflessly, to those at home, to those with whom you live. Start doing it there. Love will completely transform you, for love alone has that power, even death does not have the power to transform you. So if you love, then there is only love, there is no space for you. At present you have likes and dislikes; but with love, there is a sense of equality, you love all, you can never hate anyone. There is that underlying understanding that I will love all and exclude none. You are free. It is a joy that leads to bliss. There is so much expansion of your mind that anything that is hidden, that is unconscious, comes forward as a part of the conscious mind. Why should you be unhappy? You know who is unhappy? One who is selfish. Who is happy? One who is selfless. It’s that simple. I am not telling you to go crazy, giving away all your wealth to strangers, becoming uselessly charitable, no! I am telling you to do experiments at home, with those who live with you. Transforming your personality is the simple way to attainment. Let us not make it difficult.

In Reverence to the Guru Parampara: South India Sangha

South India Sangha   South India Sangha

Om Shri Gurave Namah!

Sacred days dedicated to the remembrance of the Guru offer a gentle yet profound opportunity for sadhakas to renew our resolve toward the spiritual purpose of life and the deepening of our sadhana. In the Himalayan Tradition, we also observe the 40-Day Annual Spiritual Festival leading up to Guru Purnima—a time our beloved Swami Veda Bharati guided as time to expand and refine one’s sadhana.

Our small group of initiates in the South India Sangha of the Himalayan Tradition held online satsangs during the 40-Days Annual Spiritual Festival. Shri Raghavedra Adiga Ji, an initiator and mentor in the tradition guided our group in refining our sadhana, japa and meditation. As most of our sangha members are balancing work and family life, regularity in meditation is often challenging. Those who attended the satsangs have found the discussions, contemplations and group meditations help them to stay on the course of sadhana. In the course of the satsangs, Adiga Ji spoke of the role of iccha shakti, the will-power in sadhana can only be practiced when the mind is calm and concentrated. In clarity of the mind, when one is completely relaxed it can focus on the goal and resolve. We were guided to maintain the resolve to meditate at the same time every day, even just for few moments a remembrance of the mantra is helpful in maintaining the connection with the Guru shakti. This Guru shakti was experienced vividly in meditations guided by Adiga Ji in our online satsangs.

This year marks two special milestones in our Himalayan Tradition, first of Gurudeva Swami Rama’s birth centenary and secondly the 10th Maha Samadhi Anniversary of our beloved Swami Veda Bharati.

As a culmination of the 40-Day Annual Spiritual Festival into Guru Purnima, as our hearts joined in with the events and celebrations at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama, we came together in an in-person satsang held at the home of Namita Sinha. In an intimate gathering of initiates and seekers, we chanted the sangha mantra Akhaṇḍa-maṇḍalākāram, meditated in silence and held discussion and reflections on the guru-disciple relationship, and how it was demonstrated by the lives of Gurudev Swami Rama and our beloved Swami Veda. An aarti and traditional south Indian meal was served on banana leaf as prasada, our stomachs and hearts full with loving grace of the Guru Parampara.

In continuation of the Gurudev Swami Rama’s birth centenary celebrations, we are holding a 100-Day online discourse inspired by two of Gurudeva’s books – A Practical Guide to Holistic Health and The Art of Joyful Living. The sessions will be led by Namita Sinha, an initiate and student in the Himalayan Yoga Tradition. The course is open for all interested sadhakas. More information about the course can be found on the link:

Inspirations from the Himalayan Master

All proceeds from the course will be offered as Dakshina to Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama, in humble gratitude for the unbound love and grace of the Guru Parampara.

Vande Guru Paramparam!

Guru Purnima Message

Dear Fellow Initiate,

“To shape your mind into a beautiful vessel for the divine Name,

Wash off the darkening shadows of sunsets of karmas with the brilliant light of the full moon of knowledge,

Persevere, uplift, & transform from the mirages and emotional storms of sorrowful bondage.

For this, let us remember the Guru’s work within the eternal lineage in which compassionate grace is our primary link.”

~ Swami Veda Bharati

Each time someone comes before you angry, disturbed, or troubled, it is a wonderful occasion for you to find that juxtaposition, to look at yourself and see how harmonized and integrated you are, so that their conflicts are not becoming imprinted and affect you. In this way, you create spiritual exercises called Svadhyaya.

Now remember, you are meditators, so you are skilled at reinterpreting those actions. In this manner, reinterpret the situations of your daily life. When you have trained your mind to look at yourself in juxtaposition to someone else’s conflicts, there will come the realization of joyfulness in you.  Your joyfulness will radiate from you and enter the other person’s mind.

Discover spirituality in all the daily routines.  Take each activity, all your involvements, and reinterpret them. For this, you need a life philosophy where meditation becomes the guiding force, a force known as the sakshi-witness. You remain the witness, the observer. Thus, your actions and reactions do not become attachments that produce pain, worry, and anxiety.

At this sacred time, we pay homage in gratitude to our Gurudeva Swami Rama, who takes the form of our spiritual guide. A guide who protects us on the journey from this shore to the other shore. A guide who graces our spirit in each breath, to re-cognise our true nature through his gift of mantra—sacred name.

May we continue to experience our true Self daily in the luminosity of our pure mind and loving heart. Meditate, Meditate, Meditate, and listen to the inner music of your soul that is your mantra.

With blessings of the Himalayan Lineage on this Guru Purnima day,

Tasmai shri gurave namah. Om tat sat.

Om,

Dear Sisters and Brothers of the AHYMSIN Family,

At the peak of an extreme drought on our lands in June, the stream carrying Swami Veda’s blessing has been growing into an ever-increasing flood. The 20th anniversary of the Hungarian Sangha halts us for a moment to joyfully celebrate a lively, active community where members are happy to meet each other, and even happier to contribute to the Guru’s plan through their seva.

As Swami Ji reminded us at the open day program, this celebration is a remembrance of our true Self, as it appears in Gurudev’s core teaching that he gave to us: Love, Serve, Remember.

We were more than honored to welcome Swami Ji for a series of events in June, which started with a Full Moon Meditation on 10th June at our Center. Right after that, on 11th June, those who had the chance to dive into a deeper inner journey embarked on the traditional one-week-long Silence Retreat led this time by Swami Ji as well as by Ashu and John. Those who were present received a concentrated and subtle flow of teachings on the fine levels of mantra practices. Swami Ji opened two seemingly different paths forward in our practice: first, one that leads to complete surrender and unity with the Divine, which is Ishvara Pranidhana, and the one which is the search for the immanent reality – Atma-tattva-avalokanam. As each year, we completed a 30-hour-long akhandajapa with our sangha mantra at the end of our retreat.

On 20th June, 16 new initiates received their personal mantra. The next day, on 21st June, we welcomed more than 230 people to the open day program. This event gathered those who were the pioneers of the Hungarian Sangha: the first people who visited the ashram in Rishikesh, invited Swami Veda to Hungary, founded the association, and organized the TTP in Hungary. Present were the former TTP students, sadhakas who engage in many duties and roles in the community. Moreover, as proof of continuity, we saw new faces — seemingly new people answered the call of an inner voice that drew them to the Tradition. We are glad to announce the new book release in Hungarian of You and Your Emotions by Swami Veda Bharati.

Finally, on 22nd June, the formerly graduated TTP teachers came together in the Center for light conversation and warm company with Ashu and John, followed by Swami Ji, who led a meditation for us. This occasion ended with a bhandara and served as the closing ritual of the celebrations.

By way of conclusion, let’s evoke the akhanda-mandala-mantra: may the Divine Mother’s beauty, which we honour and to whom we surrender, elevate our consciousness to a higher pedestal.
