Enkindle the Fire of Wisdom

Blessings for Lohri and Sankranti

May this festival enlighten your life with the warmth of glory, good health, and happiness. Wishing you all a very happy and prosperous Sankranti with the fire of knowledge enkindled in your heart. Let the Lohri bonfire light up the darkness of selfishness and unbridled desire to bring wisdom, peace, and happiness to your lives. May the fire of ambition you light within fill your life with warmth and brightness of love.

We gather as a family around the altar of the meditative-heart with each Full Moon Meditation, with repentance and gratitude. We acknowledge unfulfilled desires that penetrate into each day affecting our mind’s melody and emotional tone. Let us release, relax, and let-go for the misery the world contains has come from wanting pleasure for oneself alone.

So, let us begin this New Year together, as sadhakas, initiates, members of the sangha with a commitment.  Let us resolve that this celebration of renewal will enlighten a new day of generosity and giving. Let us realize that in santosha, contentment, we embrace fully the value and purpose of life. May each day reveal all the joy the world contains comes through wishing happiness for others through love, service, and selfless actions.

Let us enkindle aparigraha, non-attachment, to understand the unique value and purpose of our life of sadhana on this path of enlightenment. For as Gurudev has said, “Wisdom or knowledge does not nullify actions, only their binding power. Wisdom and knowledge purify the way of life and action.” May our minds be purified with this sankalpa and attain a state of tranquility. May our attainments become selfless and accepted as Mother’s Grace with appreciation and devotion.

Let this festival brighten your life with warmth, happiness, health, and love. Stay safe and may Divine Love burn brightly in your heart forever.

Yours in service of the Lineage,
srb

Editor’s Note:

13 & 14 January mark as the beginning of the harvesting season in India. As the winter season ends and spring begins, the harvest festivals are celebrated all over India and are known by various names such as – Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Bhogali Bihu, Uttarayan, and Paush Parva. This festival is a dedication to the deity Surya (the Sun God) and celebrates our relationship with nature. Thus, it is also celebrated as the beginning of the New Year because the Sun begins to move northwards in the Indian calendar on this date. Celebrations include many pujas, and sharing of gifts, particularly of one’s harvest, with one’s family, neighbours, and friends around a bonfire at night.

Holiday Blessings

Dear AHYMSIN Family,

Blessings of the Lineage to you all. As we are drawn together in this celebration of illumination let us bring the light of the hearts, our compassion, to all those who have experienced hardships, trauma, and misery.

Let the fruits of our meditations be offered: may their suffering be alleviated.
And as to yourselves say, Thy will be done and not mine.

Having thus unburdened yourself of all the claims of ego, remain a dweller of the heart-center, maintaining this awareness through breath and mantram.

I have thought about this extensively and tonight I’d like to share the two words that have come to mind: “resilience and silence”. And I call this resilience and silence returning to the single “I”. For when you drop the “I” of ego, from the “silence” of resilience, you find that you are in silence. In that single presence.

For all of us around the globe, this year has been truly a stress test of resilience and returning again and again to silence.

As we have removed the “I” of ego in resilience, we have become aware of our ability to change and flow with that change.

And as meditators, we have valued the quiet moments and have returned to silence, reminded of the fullness of re-silencing again and again throughout the day. This resilience and re-silence are two sides of the coin of personality and transformation.

Let our meditations be a pause in the constant push and go with the flow of your breath. Let your meditations be a practice resilience and return to the single “I” of silence in stillness, in the fullness of your being.

Om, Shanti, srb

Heart of Wisdom – Mindful Generosity

Today give a little more than you have given before, and love just a little bit more.

I want to see you expand your capacities. Becoming just a little larger than you think you are and see what fun that is. Just a little larger. Love just a little bit more. Try to open the door to your heart.

Are you afraid to use your key of volition? A sweet fragrance will come and touch you. With this start, with this sweet fragrance of volition, decision, expansion, your heart center opens, and you want to open just a little bit more.

Make a start today and give a little more than you have given before, and love just a little bit more.

With blessings of gratitude, Om
Swami Ritavan Bharati

Diwali Message – 2020

Diwali Blessings of the Ancients:

“Jyotir, Jyotir, Jyotih, Idam Madhu, Idam Madhu Idam Madhu;

Light, Life, Love This is honey, this is sweet, so pleasant, so beautiful!”

May the Diwali Blessings of the Ancients of our Lineage remind us of this Light of Being, the Full Moon of Consciousness, the Inner Illumination of your Self.

They remind us of liberation – freedom from all darkness of ignorance,

Their message awakens us to kaivalya – Unique, Alone, where enlightenment – nirvana becomes the “blowing-out” of all attachment and dependence on externals and only revelation remains.

The experience of the Ancients recall light so luminous, self-shining, resplendent, diminishing pride of ego, and confusion of desires. A taste of that experience alone satisfies and satiates. Let everyday be your Diwali of illumination when you surrender your meditation seat and the fruits thereof to the transpersonal being – guru, awaked in your meditation.

“Let Light alone be your delight.” Purification is the pre-requisite to reduce the totality of the world’s pains with the light of kindness, compassion, and love.

Free yourself from these opaque wrappings of mind with:
Peacefulness of temperament;
Control over the sensual attractions and attachments;
Cultivate bhava, positive sentiments that guide your inclinations;
Patience and forbearance to withstand the pull & push of dualities;
Gentle and humble faith;
Evenness of character and temperament; dispassion means compassion, clarity of life’s purpose and harmony of mind in resolving all questions.

When mind comes to rest, “Be still, be still and know, be still and know that I am, be still and know that I am God,” and, let this voice speak in you, with you, through you.

With this Diwali festival recall the path of knowledge maintained in this spiritual Lineage. Resolve to follow the path of divine love where the sweetness of light, life and love are the revelations of the Self – the pure Spirit, the Being that you are.

Om, srb

Message from Swami Ritavan

[“The AHYMSIN Board meeting always begins with an offering to the Guru and blessings by Swami Ritavan. Blessings, shared below, extends beyond the meeting, embracing the entire Sangha.” – Rajini Prakash]

parāparāṇāṁ paramā tvameva parameshvarī.
tāre, tut tāre ture, swāhā.

Namaste, greetings to all.

As we gather in the spirit of Guru’s grace, light of knowledge, and with aspirations for kindness (amity), compassion (karuna), what has been identified as a global pandemic, along with the syndromes of conflict, fear, anger, misery, and the attentive conditions of loss, loss of loved ones, of home, job, livelihood, self-respect and dignity, our task, through our sadhana in applied spirituality, is greater understanding, not only of what is right with the world but how the beauty of that which is right can be applied to beautify in what has become “ugly” in so many eyes, in all those ways mentioned.

We recall those guides and guiding principles of our past and present, and emulating them to forge a strong and steady path to the future. The future of AHYMSIN and of the entire world. Remember, through our applied sadhana, our disciplined mind is trained to rest in this most natural state of beauty, calm and free of conflict. It is the nature of our personality that animates forces to maintain calm, peaceful, harmonious and conflict-free minds in those around us in ever-expanding circles of influence.

Our task today, and each and every day, is to remain aware of that purity as our natural state of personality, and at the same time, remain aware of our acts, emotions, sentiments, words, and expressions of our personality. Through self-observation, through neutrality, through awareness, through conscious choice, through identification with the strong, the pure, the beauty-that is the divine within and through a certain restraint, we become a conqueror. Together as AHYMSIN, we reach-for and reach the promised nature of wisdom, freedom and liberation as One for All.

Swami Ritavan Replies to His Friends’ Birthday Wishes

Dear Breath – song of the Ages,

When each day the sun is born anew, each mind has a new dawn upon waking from sleep, yet the breath, ever-diligent, flows unceasingly day and night.

When each night the moon is awakened from its slumber, each mind is born to new realities of the moment, yet the breath remains spanning this shore to the other shore.

Each breath links the beads of time revealing the counted – breaths of this lifetime. Life is breathed as ‘happy birthday,’ (HamSo Asmi), Nature’s song in the hymn of breath.

And now in this body’s season of autumn, 25000 days have sung the song of 25000 breaths each day.

May God’s name in each of these 625 million breaths become a prayer – song, and may the Rishis of Yore shine with the illumined light of prana in the minds and hearts of you all with their Vedic Hymn of Hamsa, (SoHam).

Om!

Spiritual Message for This Holy-Days Season

“Guiding Light of Love Reborn—Celebrate!”

As you would hold a child in a hug, and breathe with a relaxed body, now do that with the desires and fears that you intently hold; Relaxing is to let-go, and letting-go is non-attachment.

This subtle relaxation of mind relieves the spiritual fears and afflictions from mind that holds them as, “me, mine and I”;
and deeper than this, is to re-awaken your conscience as the “voice” of mantra—your companion and guide.

Breathe through THIS mental-body.
Breathe with THIS Name and Identity.
May this Birth and Name be the reawakened soul you now celebrate,
the birth of peace, the name that is full of joy;
resolving to continue–each day, and each breath in the coming year.

With all love and light of the Tradition,
and through the grace of the Lineage,
Blessing you and your loved ones in this holy-days season.

Swami Ritavan Bharati

A Holiday Blessing (2017)

With a gentle touch to heart-strings in a song of gratitude,

Listen;

and follow the sonorous tune to silence.

A silent cradle of complete surrender where a light of love is born.

Mind smiling, all from the wordless prayer of giving and forgiving.

Let Mother Earth sing the love-tune of life for all Her creatures today and each day of your life.

Blessings of the Tradition for you and your loved ones, and may you enjoy a gracious New Year.

Om,
Swami Ritavan

A Holiday Blessing (2016)

A Holiday Blessing,

May you light the eternal flame of soul-everlasting;

May your crown illumine the heavens,

and your mind-star flash with revelation.

May your heart-cave shine with contentment,

and your red-flame of prana promote health and vitality.

May each blue-star sparkle as an entry point – a bindu to divinity.

May the lights of lives past be present, to reveal the secret of love.

Light and Love as your Destiny now and in your meditations of the coming year.

A-U-M,
Peace,
Swami Ritavan
